no issues with the staff or anything like that. the duck tour was interesting but it felt short. the wildlife encounter (if you do not go during a specific activity) is meh. my kids were happy to see the native animals which was all i was hoping for. that croc is huge!

We had a day tour arranged by Tropic Wings which included a visit here. The organisation by tropic wings was poor and very rushed- we spent most of the day waiting for buses and feeling stressed that we would get to where we needed to be on time. At Rainforestation all the staff were friendly and welcoming. Duck ride was physically painful and rather spoiled by the constant jokey narrative by the driver. I get he was trying to make a dull tour more enjoyable but it didn’t work. We were warned about all the creatures we may spot but we saw nothing! Lunch was basic/limited choice but adequate for the money. The Aboriginal Experience was informative, engaging and great fun! The wildlife park was just sad…….very small enclosures and no one supervising. Some visitors seemed to be treating the kangaroos as toys- the kangaroos were not objecting but looked “resigned” to it. With one exception there was no history of why the animal was there- unable to survive in the wild, injured???? Came away feeing sorry for them. Overall, a money making tourist trap rather than educational/conservation.

Hi Debra,
We are sorry to read that you did not enjoy your day. Rainforestation Nature Park is nestled in local rainforest just outside the village of Kuranda, about a 35-minute drive from the heart of Cairns. We offer 3 unique experiences: the amphibious Army Duck Rainforest Tour, the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience, and the Koala & Wildlife Park.
We aim to provide memorable experiences for all visitors and we have never been called a “tourist trap” before. We are disappointed to hear that you found the army duck ride painful. The DUKW (colloquially known as Duck) is a six-wheel-drive amphibious modification of the 2-ton capacity CCKW trucks used by the U.S. military in World War II, they unfortunately were not built for luxury. Your Duck Captain would have been happy to assist you if had concerns.
We are accredited by ZAA (Zoo and Aquarium Association Australasia), whose standards are higher and focused on animal welfare, also known as the 5 Domains which ensures animals are receiving the correct nutrition, environment, health, behaviour and mental state for their particular species. ZAA grants accreditation to zoos and aquariums that have clearly demonstrated their commitment to positive welfare.
Our exhibits are designed to provide environmental enrichment, also known as behavioural enrichment which provides species-appropriate challenges, opportunities, and stimulation. All our exhibits exceed minimum requirements set by Biosecurity Queensland whose standards we must meet to gain an Exhibitors License. Visitors do have the ability to purchase kangaroo food and feed the kangaroos.
We do have multiple Wildlife Keepers working each day, they will continue to move from exhibit to exhibit completing duties or taking part in wildlife presentations.
We are glad to read that you enjoyed the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience and also found our staff friendly and welcoming.

What great fun to ride an army duck through a rainforest. We were pleasantly surprised by the very informative talk from our driver. We learnt many surprising things along the ride. The prices are very reasonable for such a unique experience. Highly recommend!!

What an amazing place. Great BBQ lunch on arrival as part of our tour plan with Tropic Wings.
So many things to look at during the Army Duck Forest tour with Chris and his front row co helpers Heidi and Darci. Really loved this tour and learned so much.
The Pamagirri Dance Show and Dreamtime walk a must see. So magical.
The wildlife enclosure was well worth visiting too.

We loved every minute of it! From the aboriginal gentlemen who educated us about some of their culture to the staff, everyone was gracious and made sure we had a memorable experience. The zoo part was a little smaller than what we expected. HOWEVER, it was perfect. We met lots of "local" animals and thoroughly enjoyed it. My kids loved learning how to throw a boomerang and we loved learning about the aboriginal language. Koala apparently means "no drink" because they get their moisture by eating eucalyptus leaves :-). And a particularly big THANK YOU to Connor who showed us around on the koala experience. He and his partner were just INCREDIBLE and we learned so much from them. We can't thank you both enough. Finally, the BBQ lunch (we paid for in advance) was very good. Lots of choices--chicken, ham, etc, lots of fresh fruit, soups, and some veggies... It was VERY good :-). Thanks for an awesome day and some great memories!!!

Our multigenerational family enjoyed visiting Rainforestation. We learned a great deal about the fauna in the area on the duck boat tour and saw beautiful blue butterflies. The staff caring for the animals were very knowledgable and one woman spent a great deal of time with us and provided so much information about the wildlife and the programs at Rainforestation. We had a blast learning to throw a boomerang, watching and learning about spear throwing and the playing of a didgeridoo. During our visit a wild Cassowary wandered through. An absolutely stunning (and dangerous) creature.

Disappointing! We should have read the reviews before going.
We only did the wildlife enclosure so we will only comment on that. Only a few animals to see. Personally I don’t think their enclosure is big enough and the whole thing looks a bit sad.
It was nice to interact with the wallabies. They were quite cute but except from that this place is a tourist trap only good for foreign tourists who haven’t seen Australian wildlife before.
I understand that you need to feed the animals and look after them properly but the entry seems overpriced for what you get.
We didn’t do the other activities and in retrospective we are happy that we didn’t.

Hi @Iloveshinyshoes,
thank you for taking the time out to leave a review. We are sorry to hear that you had disappointment in regard to our Koala and Wildlife Park. We got a ticket for the dance which cost Aus$28 and were told that the event would last 30 minutes. The dance itself was repetitive. It was over in less than 15 minutes! A complete waste of time and money.

Hi Juandb,
We are sorry that the Pamagirri Aboriginal Dance Performance did not meet expectations on your day of travel. Sadly, during Cyclone Jasper in December, the Rainforest Amphitheatre, where the dance performances would normally be held, has been damaged. As a temporary measure, the performance was relocated to the Dance Stage in the Cultural Centre.
Unfortunately, on rainy days, the Pamagirri dancers may not invite guests to the stage for the “Shake-A-Leg” dance as the stage can become slippery and as always the health and safety of our customers is a top priority. We apologise that this wasn’t clearly communicated to you at the time of your booking – or during the show itself! If you are still in the region and would like to try again another time, we’d love to host you for a return trip, please contact digitalmarketing@capta.com.au.

You do get to see a little of the rainforest on the "duck", mostly the flora. The shows and demonstrations are little on the touristy side, but entertaining nonetheless.

How much is it to have your photo with the koalas and do you have to reserve a time? I saw on google reviews its a law to only allow Koalas to be held 30minutes a day
Skrevet 26. november 2019
It was $15 but not allowed to hold there unless booked well in advance according to them when I asked as previous group to us all held it but we just stood next to it.
Skrevet 29. november 2019
Are there special times for taking a photo and cuddle with a koala or is it all day possible? Can you also make a picture with your own camera of the cuddle?
Skrevet 7. februar 2019
Hi,
Thanks for your question :) Our koala photo sessions are from 9am to 4pm daily. Unfortunately, you are unable to take a photo with your own camera, although we provide with both a digital and printed copy :)
Hope to see you at Rainforestation soon.

Hello
I m planning to go to Kuranda by rail and Skyrail ..
May I know how can I go to this nature park from Skyrail or Kuranda train please ? Is it easy to get there ?
Any suggestion whether to take train to go to Kuranda or Skyrail first ?
Thanks
Skrevet 24. mars 2018
Hi there, if you book a trip via one of the online agencies they will arrange all tickets including the necessary bus transfers between all points that you book for.
Usually you go up in either the Skyrail or Train, and back down in the other. While up in Kuranda there is quite a bit of walking to do, so a package including buses would be best, unless you are a very quick walker.
Skrevet 26. mars 2018
Do I need to make a reservation for the BBQ lunch? And how much is it?
Skrevet 4. november 2017
I don’t think so, but a quick call wouldn’t hurt. They are so helpful and friendly.
Skrevet 17. januar 2018
How much is it just to do the army duck tour... Both adult and kids prices pls?
Thanks
Skrevet 11. mars 2017
Just to update you on this - the price quoted above was from our previous year's brochure. From 1st April 2017, the price has been:
A: $25.00
C: $12.50
F: $62.50

Can you please provide us any ideas for volunteer opportunities for 2 - 8 hours? We don't mind odd jobs or messy jobs, we just like to help out at each place we travel. Please advise if you have any ideas or recommendations. Thanks.
Skrevet 6. juli 2016
Thanks for your question. We don't have short-term volunteer options available, however we do have an extensive Wildlife Volunteer program available at Rainforestation Nature Park and our sister parks Wildlife Habitat and Cairns ZOOM & Wildlife Dome. If you visit the Wildlife Habitat website and go to 'About Us', you'll see an option for 'Volunteer Program' which will have more information for you.
Skrevet 22. januar 2017
We have our own car rental and would like to know if we can park at the attraction, or if we will have to park in Kuranda and take the shuttle. Thank you
Skrevet 13. august 2015
Hi there. We have customer parking in two locations - at the front of the property next to the lake just past the coach parking area, and at the back of the property. Both areas are signposted and easy to find.
Skrevet 14. august 2015
Whilst it is not possible to enter animal enclosures in our Koala & Wildlife Park, there are free-roaming kangaroos and wallabies throughout the park that you can interact with by patting and feeding. On occasions, we have allowed groups to enter koala enclosures if they've booked a special Behind-The-Scenes Tour. The experience of cuddling a koala when purchasing a koala photo is also a memorable one.
