Coffee Works, Mareeba Qld
Totally disappointing. Came a long way to revisit the museum, which is world class, but "Closed" for an indefinite period by the owners for no apparent reason.
The Coffee Works used to be about coffee, all the different beans and blends and history. Now you get to see half a dozen jars of beans on the way in, with nothing to suggest that they are anything other than somewhere to store the beans for the cafe.
Not being able to visit the museum, your only options are to go inside or leave. Having come a distance to be here, we chose to enter into what should be an Aladdin's cave of coffee related items, but instead, is just the usual array of tourist cups and bowls and candles and ...stuff.
There is a chocolate shop / factory where you can buy the what may well be the most expensive chocolate in Australia, but it's not that special and there is no tasting. The piece we bought is pretty bland to be honest.
They also used to make a big thing of their liqueurs, but now if you ask at the cafe they will bring a slider to you table and leave you with it.
We decided to stay for lunch. My chicken and avocado roll turned up straight away, but went cold just as fast. My wife's ham and cheese croissant took 20 minutes to materialise, despite being ready made in the bain-marie. The coffee came promptly enough but was just the standard Black Mountain coffee, which is ground by the Seven Miles group and which you will be served almost everywhere you sit to drink coffee. I drink my coffee black. The beans have to be ground just so, more so if they are single origin beans, and to be frank, mine weren't.
Coffee Works has now opened shops up in lots of other places, and so now instead of being special, instead of being an experience, instead of being a destination, its just another boring coffee shop with delusions of grandeur and expensive tat for sale.

Very cool place tucked away. Quaint little shop and a coffee museum to wander through. Coffee bean sales at entry which can also be bought online. Cafe doesn’t have a great range of food on offer but we all found something to eat. Travelling with teenage boys. Highly recommend.

Sunday drive up from Port Douglas
Who can resist 3 of life’s pleasures
1️⃣ a winding road
2️⃣ good range of boutique chocolate
3️⃣ Good Coffee
Wonderful place to come
Lots of Knick knacks coffee cups, equipment to choose from
Wide range of coffee flavours with some teas thrown in as a bonus
Good selection of food in the cafeteria to sooth the hunger pangs
We can definitely vouch for the banana caramel cake & Salted Caramel nut gelato
Chai Latte made from leaves not syrup or powder (big plus ➕➕ from my partner)
Cappuccino arrived hot
All up great place to visit
Freezer bags with ice bricks available to get your chocolates home unmelted
On line order & shipping also available for restocking from home
Will be back if ever in the area again

My happy place... Coffee Works in Mareeba. Coffee and Chocolate does one need anything else in life? ☕️🍫
Great little local attraction with a large assortment of coffee bean to choose from and smell as well as a chocolate shop and a antiques/souvenir store all rolled into one
Had a delicious iced coffee and ice chocolate which was great!

We came for a tasting at Coffee World while staying at nearby Granite Gorge and tried a range of chocolates and chocolate liqueurs. Each morsel/nip (we each got 5 each, chocolate and liqueur) was vastly different from the last and it was fantastic to enjoy so many diverse flavours (e.g. chocolate – lime, lemon myrtle, black pepper, jaffa; liqueur – cocoa crème, latte, etc). From memory we paid around $15 each for entry which included the tasting and it was 110% worth it. Also be sure to check out the attached coffee museum and Chocolate Works chocolate shop.

Stopped here for our morning coffee which was delicious. Loved the rustic surroundings. The chocolate shop is to die for, spend over $40 and you get a cooler bag to keep it fresh. The liquors also delicious hard to decide on which one to buy. Friendly staff and a cute gift shop.

In October 2007 my wife and I went to Cairns for a holiday. We decided to drive up to Mareeba to have a look at this Australian coffee and tea growing business, On the way, as we were passing through Gordonvale in mid-morning, my wife suggested we stop at a cafe there for a coffee before driving up the mountain. Well the cafe was plain, the waiter was friendly and helpful, but the coffee was out of this world. "What coffee is this?" I asked "Black Mountain from the CoffeeWorks at Mareeba," she said. A half hour or so later we arrived at Mareeba and were shown the coffee tasting bar. The Black Mountain roast available there confirmed our earlier experience. We then did the tour of the tea and coffee production,
About every two to three months since then I have placed a coffee and tea order via their web site, and the order is delivered to my front door two to three days later. In recent times we have found the coffee liqueur to be an irresistible indulgence.
We also buy their Misty Mountain tea, which we also rate very highly.

My husband and I were staying in Mareeba for a few days and decided to have a coffee at Coffee Works. We were disappointed. We ordered 2 small flat whites, one double shot and one single as the girl serving could not advise us of the strength. One suggested that their coffee is smooth. We now know ‘smooth’ means ‘weak’. We had to wait for over 20mins. My husband had to go and ask when our coffee would be ready. He was told that our docket got pushed to the back. You’d think a business with such a high turnover of customers would have a ‘system’ to prevent that from happening. To appease us, the girl bought out 2 chocolates. This was definitely a waste of $9.60 and our time. This business appears to be more interested in selling trashy trinkets than making decent coffee. If you’re heading south, the best coffee we found was at Whistle Stop in Yungaburra. Do yourself a favour and keep driving past Coffee Works.

Dear Depq2013,
Thank you for your visit and your review.
We are saddened to hear of this experience with us. We apologise for the time you had to wait for your coffees and our Team Leader tried to correct this for you and your husband by giving you the chocolates.
We hope we can welcome you again in the future.
Have a delicious day !
