We visited on a Tuesday when the teahouse was closed so we missed the chance to try the yummy food and the cruise however I have done this before and it was excellent and informative. If you are travelling around the area on a Monday or Tuesday it is still worth calling if for a picture of the teahouse , lake and gardens and visiting the lake side to view some of the fish swimming around.

It was amazing to realize that the boat was skippered by the owner of the teahouse and boats. His Grandparents settled here back in the early 1900s before it was a National Park and started developing it. He knows the area so well and made this cruise so special. Lots of ducks, birds, even a brush turkey. Plus the amazing rainforest trees. So worthwhile, glad we did this.

This was our second visit here, both times on a shore day off a cruise ship. Last time we missed the lake cruise by 10 minutes because we stopped at the Cathedral Fig so without that stop we arrived with 15 minutes to spare.
We set off for a clockwise circuit of the Lake hugging the shoreline all way round.
Our guide was the current manager and fourth generation of the family who built the tea house back in 1930. The commentary was very informative.
We learned about how the lake was formed, heard lots of very interesting stories about previous activities the family operated on the lake and also took lots of great pictures.
While we toured the lake in the boat family members of other passengers were doing their circuit by land, and our guide stopped and pointed out a couple of viewing platforms on that trail.
He pointed out some lovely huge fig trees and many other species of local flora. At one stop we were entertained by eels, fish, a bush turkey up in a tree and the many ducks and water runners that followed our progress around the lake.
I would highly recommend doing this trip if you have time.
Unfortunately we ran out of time to stop to sample the morning scones but they looked wonderful.

We were taken on a 45 minute cruise around beautiful Lake Barrine by our wonderful guide. The waters are pristine and the wildlife and vegetation on the shores are amazing. It was great to hear the story of the resident eels which swim all the way from New Caledonia and climb up the waterfalls to enjoy the beautiful waters of Lake Barrine. After 15 years they make their way back to New Caledonia to mate and die. The commentary of our guide whose great grandfather founded the guest house there was what I would describe as loving and tender with a wealth of local knowledge. His soft spoken voice matched the beautiful silence as we glided around the shores. I would recommend this experience to anyone. It was both relaxing and stimulating at the same time.

Have visited several times on this visit to Australia. The visits and food have been most enjoyable apart from our visit today. It is a shame that a member of staff used the toilet at the same time as myself, failed to wash His hands and went straight back to serving customers. Very, very poor hygiene standards. Won't be visiting again I'm afraid.

We arrived at the historic teahouse in heavy rainfall, and were glad to be inside around the wood fire, eating the scrumpious scones with native plum jam and real cream, plus a pot of local "Ulysses" tea. Given the weather, we almost didn't go on the short cruise around the crater lake, but the boat is undercover, so we toughened up and went. So glad we did. We were the only brave passengers, and the rain stopped after a while. Our boat captain/guide was very helpful, pulling the smaller boat right into the weeds so we could look at a diamond python and an amethyst python. We were followed by a flotilla of beautiful teal ducks, and saw many turtles, fish and enormous eels. The vegetation around the lake is spectacular rainforest, and the umbrella trees had big red flower stalks. There is a walking track right around the lake, but you would only get glimpses of the water through the dense vegetation. The tropical gardens of the lovely old teahouse are very beautiful.

The owner of the Teahouse is the grandson of the first owners. He does the 40 minutes boat tours himself. I did’nt expect much, but what a pleasant and excellent surprise!
The weather was not that good...sunny spells and dark clouds after a rainy night but that meant we saw an amethyst python near the water edge, a Tawny frogmouth, a snake, many fish, turtles and more birds. The lake is beautiful and the geological history even more.
The food is good and the views from and the location of the teahouse are great. It can be very busy at lunch with a waiting time but with views like that you won’t be bored! Take it easy and enjoy.

Arrived at the teahouse and tested the scones and soup of the day. Perfect. We enjoyed a great time on the cruise with personal commentary. The skipper was a grandson of the original owner!
There is a 5km walk around this crater lake, but I do not think you would see the wildlife like we did in the edge of the water like we did from the cruise - so very worthwhile.

We have been to many tourist activity/restaurants in North Queensland and today we had the pleasure of spending the morning at scenic Lake Barrine. The cruise around the Lake with commentary given by Joy proved to be exceptional, most informative and a photographer’s delight. There is a wide variety of aquatic animals and birds and plenty to enjoy during the 45 minutes on the Lake. The setting is so relaxing and the teahouse is over 100 years old. The menu all sounds delicious with something for all tastes. Our morning tea was scrumptious with the best carrot cake we have ever eaten. Do yourself a favour and plan a visit to this unique tourist destination for a tour around Lake Barrine with lots of flora and fauna, some fun and laughter then after a stroll through their beautifully manicured gardens have some scrumptious refreshments on the balcony overlooking the Lake. Thanks to friendly owner and staff for making us feel so welcome. We will be back and will recommend this experience ti everyone.
