Kamakhya Temple, one of the most revered Shakti Peeths in the world, is perched atop a hill with stunning views of the mighty Brahmaputra River. I recently visited and wanted to share a few tips to make your Darshan experience smoother.
For those opting for the general queue, the temple issues around 2,100 tickets at a time from a counter just outside the temple. Despite having this free ticket, be prepared to wait around 5-6 hours for Darshan.
VIP tickets, though, are quite challenging to obtain. The counter opens one hour before the temple at 7 a.m., but people start queuing as early as 4 a.m. Only 200-300 tickets are issued, priced at INR 500 each. Even with a VIP ticket, expect a wait of 2-3 hours for Darshan.
One helpful tip: aim for the afternoon VIP tickets. When we visited, the afternoon slot was almost empty, and we secured our tickets easily. However, even then, we had to wait around 3 hours for Darshan.
Don’t forget to explore the other temples surrounding Kamakhya, especially the one at the top of the hill—it offers breathtaking views of the entire city of Guwahati.

Kamakhya Temple is one of the Shakti Peeth, located on the Nilachal Hills ,Assam .The temple exudes powerful positive vibrations, and our visit was smooth and pleasant. However, there is room for improvement in the cleanliness of the temple premises, as it could benefit from being tidier given its significance as a place of worship. On the positive side, the temple is well-staffed, which helps ensure a smooth experience for visitors. Overall, it's worth visiting to experience the unique vibrations and power of this sacred site.

Animals are sacrificed in this temple. Then the meat is eaten by the priests and others. The animals cry in horror and pain. Some people can tolerate this, but I cannot. Hence the 1-star.

This beautiful mandir is really nice. Vibrations are very strong. Just plan your trip as it was really hot and even VIP lines take around two plus hours for the visitation to the holy temple. Enjoy a lifetime experience at this temple. Jai Mata Di.

The Ambubachi Mela is a Devi Puja Ritual attended by Assamese Local People as part of cultural integration and divine offerings to the Goddess Kamakhya the 51st sakthi peet of Devi. An Ambubachi Mela is organized by temple and lakhs of devotees throng the 10km walk up and down a hill to view her Sanctum. A parikrama is allowed of the temple no Darshan of the sanctum. Special saints perform poojas to increase their power by staying near the temple. Safety wise pleae go prepared with hydration as the walk is long. Eataries are present but safer not to turn the place into a waste bin by locals and tourists. Safety is a key word.

Have great devotion for MAA Kamakhya .However few things need attention.
1. Temple in untidy.No facilities.sacrifice of animals
2. Pandas are commercial and few are rude(Had bad experience with MITHU Pandit who was rude and arrogant ).Unhelpful people

It was very divine and most powerful temple in the whole world. You should surely visit it. We liked it a lot and it was very divine and majestic especially the devi cave. Best temple in the whole world!

We had been to Guwahati last week mainly with the aim of visiting the Kamakhya temple. I will cover my overall trip in 4 parts - the hotel, the guide, the temple visit and the city.
We booked Sachika hotels which had good reviews and decent rooms in MMT. The hotel actually turned out much better than we had initially thought. Decent price, big rooms with all necessary amenities, a well maintained place and awesome food in addition to very courteous staff. They also gave us the contact of Hitesh who arranged a visit to the Kamkhya temple.
Hitesh runs a cab service and helped us plan our visit to Kamakhya temple by suggesting the right date and time. He has excellent contacts in the temple and helped us in purchasing the necessary items for the darshan. He booked a temple priest as well who guided us with the darshan. We owe it to him for making our visit to the temple a success! Apart from the Kamakhya temple visit, Hitesh also acted as a professional guide for sight seeing in the city by suggesting good places for purchasing tea and silk sarees as well as restaurants. Throughout the day he also provided interesting observations about the city and the people.
The darshan in Kamakhya temple was the best part of the trip. Inside the main temple, we forgot about everything else and were wowed by its sheer magnificence and serenity. There is a power associated with the place which reminded us of our roots. The temple is ancient and divine. May the grace bestowed unto us by Maa Kamakhya stay forever! We also visited the Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga in Guwahati and all I can say is it seems like the perfect place where Bhagwan Shiva would like to rest. Our guide Hitesh told us that government has tried to build a concrete temple at the place but everytime the construction got mysteriously broken by the elephants in the nearby jungle :)
Guwahati is a beautiful city and the people are generally welcoming and friendly. There are lots of grand temples one can visit and the Brahmaputra river flows though the city. There are cruises available near the river port. There are lots of sight seeing options nearby like the Kaziranga national park and Meghalaya is only a couple of hours from Guwahati. We had a spare day and drove a self rental car to visit Umiam lake near Shillong.
I will definitely be visiting the city again in the near future and can confidently bank on Mr. Hitesh to guide us in visiting more amazing places nearby.

Jai Kamakhya Devi. The so called pundits demand/beg for money and compel the visitors for Dakshina every step of the way and are extremely rude if you don't comply. They are nothing short of goons. They ruin the sanctity of such a holy place. The visit was very disturbing. Wish the authorities would stop this racket.

Good experience..
General line was said to be 10hrs wait. .. vip line atleast 4 hours after paying 501/- per head....
Devi darshan was possible even without these lines. Line was for people who wanted to enter the Garbh Griha and touch the holly water. If one wants to just do the darshan it is possible to do it within one hour or maybe less..

My guess is 5 am , since we visited at about 6 am and there was a que already.at 6 am most shops were open.regarding morning arti i do not have an answer

The road is very winding . To many curves so you can not see the oncoming cars . That could be dangerous. Is the temple open at that time ?
