Reason: Most of the buildings in this temple complex are white. Occasionally you will find individual stone blocks that have retained their original colors and one of the gopurams and the tops of the gopurams are gilded, but white is the dominant color.
The complex is dedicated to the mother goddess Kamakshi, who is only found here in South India under this name (Kamakhya, Lalitambika, Tripurasundari). Further north in the country she also exists under other names as a person who is characterized by calm, peace and beauty. Her attributes are very varied in her pictorial representations.
The buildings are impressive not only because of their color, but also because of their design. At the time of our visit there were very few people here and the atmosphere throughout the complex was very relaxed and impressive.
In short: an impressive place to relax from other, more popular scenes.

Visited the Kamakshi Amman Temple in Kanchipuram,

This is a very large temple and one should walk slowly while in it, feeling the divineness of the temple.

Mornings are less rush, evenings are more rush.

The Temple has an ABHISHEKHAM, in the morning at 11 am and evening 4.00 pm. Cost is Rs 1,000 per person and ticket can be purchased from the cashier in the temple complex. Attended the 4.00 pm one. About 20 people are allowed in a shift. They make you sit in the Sanctum Sanctorium right in front of the Kamakshi Amman Devi idol and do a complete Abhishek, a process which takes about 2 hours.

Definitely worth it. No two arguments about it.

We went to the Kamakshi Amman Koil on the 25th of December. Huge crowds, roughly about 3000 people in queue at around 9:30 am. The crowd snaked for miles and it would have taken at least 4-5 hours for us to see the Goddess. Unfortunately, this did not allow us to take a chance and see the goddess or enjoy the temple. Of course, one cannot begrudge devotees. However, the magnificence of the temple was lost in the way the crowd was managed. And the less said the better in terms of the filth outside the temple. No proper place to keep footwear...most kept it with the wayside beggars. The food waste was strewn all around the temple. No proper traffic management and the cars, people and dogs were all jostling to move ahead. We also had a VIP visiting with his entourage so the police were busy managing the crowds to ensure his visit...the common man be damned. Overall, very disappointing.

I went on a family trip last week to the Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple, and it was super awesome! 🕉️ The temple is so big and beautiful with lots of colorful things. It made me feel happy and peaceful.

We stayed at Sree Sakthi Residency, which is like a small walk from the temple. It's a 2-star hotel, but it's really nice. 😊 The room was comfy, and there's a big bed that felt like a giant marshmallow. 🛏️

The best part was the restaurant inside the hotel. It's famous, and the food was super tasty! 🍲 We had dosa, idli, and even ice cream. Yum! 😋

The people at Sree Sakthi were nice too. They smiled a lot and helped us find the temple and other cool places. 🤗

I liked everything, and if you're going to the Kanchi Kamakshi Temple, you should stay at Sree Sakthi Residency too! It's super cool and you'll have lots of fun!

We visited this temple during a weekday thinking it will be less crowded which it was and quickly entered through the free line and not through the paid line due to less crowd.
But as we reached very close to the deity there was someone conducting pooja at the temple due to which the line was stopped and couldn't move. And soon there was a huge line which could have been easily avoided if they would have continue to move people who are just to seek blessings.

But this was not the case!

We visited the Kanchi Amman temple recently. We made some offerings to Devi Amman.
We were shocked when the priest blatantly demanded money to take the offering to Devi.
In any case we always voluntarily keep some money on the platter, but in this case the demand was blatant and just not within any level of moral conduct. These kind of priests bring bad name to the town and the temple.
We ask the temple authority to put an end to this kind of money grabbing by priests which happened only at this temple amongst so many we visited at Kanchi.
How this happens at such a prominent temple?

The Kamakshi Temple is one of the must visits in this part of Tamil Nadu. It is quite large a property where the pradakshinam will consume some time. The deity (a form of Goddess Parvati) is supposed to be the wife of Ekamreshvarar (a form of God Shiva) in the nearby temple. The unusual presence of a sugarcane in the hand of the deity has multiple explanations. This temple is linked to the 5th Shankara peetham of Kanchi which originally was sort of a branch of the Sringeri peetham. It has one of most hygienic footwear counters in Indian temples with a water tap beside that with continuous supply of water.

First and foremost thing is temple should not be closed for 4-5 hours at a stretch inconveniencing the public and tourists at large. They were doing special Pooja for a private party/s.
The pandit at the entrance of sanctum Santorum was so arrogant and was showing his hand and telling people to step aside and talk to him. He did not even had a common courtesy to respect a senior citizen of 70 and 65. Is that is what is taught by Vedas for him to be a pandit. Most unfortunate to have such people in a prestigious and an age old famous religious temple.
