After walking the pier then taking the train back we visited this quirky little museum. We were the only visitors at the time so gotva personal tour from one of the two very friendly volunteers in the museum. There are some great exhibits from the piers history in here including train carriages, the signal box and old slot machines. Well worth the small entrance fee.

You could easily miss this nice little museum which is full of interesting facts and memorabilia regarding the pier trains.
The staff that were there today were so informative, super friendly, and eager to tell you about the displays.
For just under £3 it's well worth a visit.

Gone is the damp musty smell of the place.
Gone are many of the wardrobe doors used for displaying notices and photos.
Gone are the numerous 'Do Not Touch', 'No Phones', 'No Photography' and 'Photographs not allowed' notices.
Gone is the dull lighting.
Gone are the evil women who treated the place as if it was their own private museum.
Meet the new spacious, well-lit Southend Pier Museum with a very friendly customer-focussed management team.
If you had nightmares from visiting the old set up then they will blow away once you visit this re-vamped museum, and you can take as many photos as you like!!

A lovely little museum with lots of interesting exhibits portraying the history of this lovely old pier. With an old pier train and carriages, numerous artifacts old seaside slot machines, lots of old photographes and models, it brings alive days gone by of Southend Pier. Incorporated is a small little gift shop which is run by a very informative young lady Maria the supervisor. if you are visiting Southend give it a go its worth a visit.

Fairly interesting to learn about the history of this local landmark, don't make it the sole purpose of your visit though.

It's not very big but the entrance fee was only £2.00 it's very old fashioned but quirky and interesting. The story of the pier and the different trams it has had over the years all told on information boards, postcards and newspaper articles. They also have some former tram carriages on display and a variety of seaside memorabilia in cases. It doesn't take long to go round but certainly worth the £2 entrance fee.

A fascinating insight in how not to run a museum in this day and age. Don't touch this, don't touch that! Apart from a few old train carriages and some old photos, very little to see. All the exhibits are in need of some tlc and the whole place needs a revamp. Entrance fee is only £2, which is the only plus point.

A small friendly museum full of information and exhibits to interest all the family. Not just about the pier, lots about the ships connected to it, facts about during the war and obviously the history of the trains. The dedicated volunteer staff were very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. It was a real pleasure to visit. Small cost to get in but well worth it.

Helpful staff and lovely museum by the side of the pier. Could do with some signage at the entrance to the pier as we nearly missed the museum due to the queue for the train hiding the museum's entrance. If you like your history it's worth a visit!

What is the real reason why phones and photography is banned? Seems quite draconian these days.

The previous management made up pathetic excuses of 'copyright', 'because of young children there', and 'crime prevention advice' - None of which would've stood up in court in legal proceedings were taken against them. However thanks to the present management team who have revamped the museum and have lifted the previous draconian rules, click away!!

Is it wheelchair friendly
Unfortunately, no. Well, not the mass of stairs needed to get up to it. Unless there's a passage I know nothing about. Going on the pier is your decision. Probably not, sorry.
