Free parking and a stones throw from ferry. Ideal for a walk and snack after ferry or to kill time before boarding as it’s 5 min from terminal. Pleasant garden farm shop and cafe. Gets busy but staff efficient and food looks good.

We went to Quarr Abbey for coffee and lunch. Lovely food and grounds. Weather was not the best but we still managed to sit outside. Would highly recommend going here even if it's only for a coffee Bus stop's outside the main entrance, Number 9 . But it is a bit of a walk if you have reduced mobility no problem in a car .

Firstly, this is a working catholic abbey - complete with monks and the odd nun. They are contemplative and worshipful - please respect their silence and religious beliefs. There is no charge to enter the grounds of the abbey and you are welcome to enter the chapel for any of the daily prayers - listen for the bell. Do respect this house of God. The rest of the abbey is private. The grounds are extensive and a walk through the woods will bring you to the original abbey ruins. There is a market garden and a rather large piggery. You can buy pig food from the farm shop to feed them. There is a gift shop and a rather nice tea room and gardens. Enjoy the quiet and the peaceful setting - all for free.

Love this place fourth visit. The church is lovely and peaceful. Excellent tea room and shops. Relax in the country.

Interesting sight to wander around and to enjoy a tranquil walk through woods. Probably suits older visitors without children but a few animals to see.

So love this place of tranquility! The Abbey has a magical charm that you cannot escape. This is a working Abbey and there are Monks on site, so please respect this when visiting.
There is a great Refreshment area and Gift shop. I purchased some of their great ground coffee when last there!
Don't miss seeing the Piggeries. Here there are pigs of all ages, and at the time of our visit, a Sow had just produced a litter of piglets a few days ago.
A lovely place to spend some quality time.

We were in need of somewhere to shelter from the rain and bide time before our ferry home.
I hadn't even heard of Quarr but my boyfriend had seen it featured on a xmas TV programme. So we stopped by and had a look about. Just watching the pigs was entertainment in itself. We visited the small museum and then peeked into the church before venturing to the tea room.
This was excellent. The staff super friendly and welcoming. The food (one panini with trimmings and one scone with jam), simple enough but done really well and reasonably priced.
The rain then stopped so we could have a wander around the grounds although we never managed to find the ruined church.

Very interesting place, lovely gardens and cafe. It was fun watching the piglets running around too. Very peaceful.

Based on previous visits, I was going to say that Quarr Abbey is a hidden gem of calm but the car park suggested otherwise. However, the grounds are so extensive that it never feels crowded, added to which a look inside the abbey itself is awe-inspiring and calming. You might be lucky to witness a service being conducted.
The shop sells produce from the Abbey farm as well as the more usual visitor offerings. We treated ourselves to a book of beautiful photographs depicting the Abbey across the seasons - an opportunity to browse through the pages and effectively extend the visit. The staff members were so welcoming and friendly.
There is a very popular eatery and garden seating area, so at busy times you may have to queue - but it will be worth the wait. Queueing for the toilet facilities is sometimes necessary, so plan ahead!
If I lived on the island I would visit Quarr Abbey regularly to experience it in the different seasons - and why not, admission is free.

Lovely place to visit, pig farm, beautiful grounds and beautiful Abbey. Really enjoyed the experience of being allowed into the Abbey while prey service was being taken. Very beautiful experience.

how long would it take to walk from the car ferry if we got it from southsea old portsmouth/gun whalf with a wheel car for tomorrow pls

Don't quite know what you mean by'wheel car'?
If you're walking from the ferry port on the island to Quarr, it'll take about 35-40 minutes at standard pace.
If you mean walking around the abbey and gardens, it's about 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

They are open every day except Christmas Day.
It's a beautiful place to visit..free but please make a donation.

Hi, I read in your review that you took your dog, do they allow dogs? Am visiting the island next week and have always wanted to go to the Abbey. Many thanks in advance

I believe dogs are allowed in the grounds but not the actual Abbey itself. I did a quick Google search and it appears to be guide dogs only. Hope that helps you.

How far is it by bus and walking?

It's on the Isle of Wight, get a number 9 bus from ryde station then you need to walk down the road opposite the bus stop , the conductor will show you, . It's about a ten minute walk but there are pigs to look at on the way down to the abbey . Hope you enjoy your visit.

The information online indicates it is,This is the info regarding the Tea & Farm shop which is on the grounds,Not sure about the Visitors centre but the Abbey is open even when the men are at prayer etc.
The Tea & Farm Shop is open daily (except on Good Friday and from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Eve inclusive) Weekdays 10.00 to 5.00 and Sundays 11.15 to 5.00 Summer time and 10.00 to 4.00 Weekdays and 11.15 to 4.00 Winter time.
