The bus museum is certainly worth adding to your itinerary when visiting the island, it is staffed by enthusiastic volunteers and it deserves to be recognised as a worthy attraction on the island. It is free to enter but a small donation helps to maintain the work ongoing in preserving a valuable piece of the IOW history, I certainly remember coming to the island as a child and seeing the green IOW buses travelling around. They serve tea & coffee & there is a small tuck shop too, there is visual access to the workshop area so you can see the buses that are currently undergoing restoration. There's memorabilia as well as the buses themselves on display to help to tell the history of the bus & coach network that has existed on the island, kids will be kept amused whilst you're there as there's plenty of stuff on show.

Visited the museum just after it reopened for the season and we were very impressed.
I am obsessed with vintage buses and all their history so this was right up my street. The fact that they had busses running down to the esplanade was also a bonus.
Friendly volunteers and free admission. We had a nice cuppa, proper bus drivers tea and a Kitkat! Plus a look around the collectible memorabilia shop and purchased items to add to our bus and train collection!
Would certainly recommend a visit and we will be back very soon.

The people who look after the museum. The memory of Shanklin bus station in the 1960s. Try the canteen bus for tea and the shop for models.
The Museum is FREE.

This museum is free entry and has a large selection of vintage buses available; in summer months they offer bus rides, but it wasn't running while I was there!.
The buses were kept in glorious condition! The 'cafe' is only drinks and snakes, they don't serve meals.
Very unusual items for sale in the gift shop, including ticket machines!

This is a smallish museum packed with buses run by volunteer enthusiasts. They have a wide range of old buses to look at and a very informative film of bus types etc. Well worth a visit if you are in the Ryde area and it’s wet.

If you were around in the 1960s and 1970s taking holidays in the UK more than likely you would have taken a bus or coach trip or tour and this small museum definitely brings back those "On the Buses" days.
Hidden in the back streets of Ryde is this collection of old vehicles. From horse-drawn stagecoaches to motor buses and coaches of all periods it has it all. Add to that entry is free, but a donation is asked for if you can oblige. Note opening times and days are limited even at peak times of the year so always check before visiting.
The volunteers are marvellous and knowledgeable and are willing to answer all your questions. There is a shop full of bus/coach books, toys and memorabilia as well as a small cafe. A fun visit.

To start with, this museum does not charge an entrance fee! This working old Southern Vectis bus garage is a piece of IOW history. The museum is crammed with vehicles and you are introduced by willing volunteers who explain about the museum. The sad part was you couldn't jump on to the vehicles because of the damned Covid! There is a small café and shop as well with numerous items for the avid bus fan. Seeing and old 'Bristol VR' reminded me of when I was a kid visiting the island for the day going to Blackgang Chine..... That was a few 'moons ago...

We have a toddler who is obsessed with buses so to find this free attraction was a win.
Friendly volunteers, clean, plenty of parking.
There were two buses which my toddler was allowed to sit in the driving seat which made his day!
There is a cafe and shop at the end, where you can also make a donation.

The IOW Bus & Coach museum is a very enjoyable and interesting place to visit whilst on the island. The volunteers are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the displays which adds a nice personal touch to the visit. The unique busses and coaches on display offer an insight into island travel throughout the years. There are also many artefacts on display of bus related memorabilia and historical items related to travel on the island. This museum is a must visit and I highly recommend it as a day out. Thank you to everyone at the museum :)
