Very impressive architecture and internal decoration. The painted pillar was fascinating and clearly explained. The people were very friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit for up to an hour.

Popped over from King Henry IV at Canterbury Cathedral to see the church that has a dedication to King Stephen, but it was closed. Looked round the interesting graveyard instead.

I visited on a spring day 2019 as I wanted to see the reputed burial place of King Stephen (reigned 1135-1154), of the few English monarchs not buried in London or Windsor, so the church already has a major claim to fame. I was surprised, however, to also find some very interesting misericord carvings (a demon eating a man, a monkey playing a doctor, a 'wodwose'), and a miraculous painted survival from around the year 1300: a column bearing images of saints and gospel scenes. As the majority of medieval paintings in England were wiped out during the Reformation this was a fascinating glimpse into popular English medieval art (there is almost a naif quality to it). But do not expect to see any such art around King Stephen's tomb. The exact location of his remains was lost centuries ago so all you can see today is a memorial plaque in an alcove. It was still a thrill to see it though, since I like to visit the tombs of English monarchs.
The church is free to enter, and the wardens I spoke to when I was there were very friendly and helpful.

This church looks stunning form the exterior and the interior doesn't disappoint. The highlight is the medieval painted column which is hard to believe that is over 600 years old.

A must for a visit.
Such a beautiful church with so much history. Be sure to see the choir pews as they contain very intricate ate carvings under the seats.

As an avid taphopile I have visited hundreds of churches and graveyards and this one is in my top twenty. The graveyard is beautiful and full of interesting memorials and the church is breathtaking.

A huge church for a small town like Faversham, with large, wide transepts making the interior feel very open. Notable is the mediaeval painted pillar, the reputed tomb of King Stephen, some finely carved misericords, beautiful stained glass windows and the fascinating open spire.
