Very interesting. Well worth a visit. Steep climb to church so good walking shoes required. Staff informative.

Well worth a visit and very interesting. Please consider giving more than the entrance fee.
The lady there was very informative and the experience was very interesting.

We were a little surprised at the size of the crypt, although we weren’t sure either what to expect. We paid a small entrance fee, something like £2/£4 each, which acted as a donation I believe. We were given a quick introduction to the front of the crypt with a few interesting points noted out for us, then left alone to roam around.
It’s a very fascinating place, not for everyone but if you’re interested in the history it’s with a visit.

Hidden away up a steep hill just off Hythe High Street is this crypt. Over 1,000 skulls and bones in differing states. A very helpful lady is there to answer questions. It costs £2 to enter and is well worth that. If you want to spend an unusual half hour visiting something different, look no further.

Trying to explain to some friends that we went to see a collection of bones and skulls piled high but dating back to C15th was a bit of a challenge, to give a picture of just how strangely fascinating the ossuary actually is. Not strictly speaking in a crypt (as it is not below ground), the collection itself, stands 6 foot tall , 6 foot deep and about 20 foot long, with many skulls originating from women and children.
Surprisingly ,the ossuary is not as macabre as you might imagine, although the place certainly has an unusual appeal about it.
One fact I was astounded about was that the bones were collected and stacked in their present formation (by the army ), in 1906.The bones have remained there in that same spot ever since, even when the 1942 bombing raid knocked out the East Window of the church adjacent.
Do go and see this almost unique site.

A very interesting visit to a beautiful church & unique crypt or chapel full of human bones. Friendly staff and a knowledgable guide. Educational and unusual.

A fabulous experience with a superb steward Mr John Howard, whose infectious enthusiasm, humour and knowledge made it an entertaining pleasure. It’s also a bargain at £2 each entry.

The Crypt is a very interesting place and the price is very reasonable at £2 per adult. You get to find out the history of the skulls and bones that have been found out so far.
The guide, Diana was very knowledgeable and informative and even told us more of Hythe’s history. We were allowed to take as many photos as we wanted but cannot touch the bones as our oils will damage them. There were a couple that were discoloured and we found out the story why this was so.
It was not an eerie place at all as I though we were being slightly morbid by going to visit bones!! It was truly fascinating as I love the biology of the human body!!
Well worth a visit and it doesn’t take a long time.

We were visiting Hythe and stumbled upon the existence of the Ossuary by chance. Greeted by a lovely lady upon opening, we were regaled with tales of its existence for a mere £2 each. We learnt a lot about why the bones were there and why some were discoloured. It was a very peaceful and humbling environment.
If you're into Ossuaries, don't let this one pass you by.
