What an amazing hall to visit. There is so much to see and do. it will take you at least 2 hours to look around. There are some very interesting collections that had been given to the family and artifacts fro the local area too.
The volunteers are very helpful and knowledgeable. it is a very interesting house with so much to see.
There is an art gallery and also a photo exhibition.
In the dinning room there is a large painting of the family that is unusual. the furniture is splendid.
In the chapel the wooden alter is magnificent and with so much carving on it. It takes awhile to take it all in.
The grounds are beautiful and well worth exploring.

Last visited 20+ years ago and it was Meh! My Brother in law who hails from Burnley but now lives in Manchester suggested a visit and so off we went. It's changed, Dramatically for me as it's much more than it was. Spent 4 hours there and it wasn't enough but it was enough to merit a return journey which we made today as we didn't get to see everything last time. The grounds are extensive and well looked and beautiful but we went to take photo's and video's. We encountered some very well informed guides/assistants who were more than happy to chat and answer questions and as a bonus we chatted to the manager of Townely hall, Ken. A wealth of knowledge and he showed us to lesser known parts (secrets) of the hall. A circular staircase! A very old ensuite toilet! A fantastic experience was had and we will definitely be going back and you pay £5.50 for a yearly ticket. Whats not to like.
Thank you very much Ken and his team for two great days out. Highly recommended.

We visited here as we have been gifted Historic Houses membership. We came on a weekend and we were told that some of it may not be accessible as there was a wedding going on but that it might of finished by the time we got to that part but just to be aware. We started to make our way through looking at things and reading about things and then got up into this one room where a new guide had just come on duty there and she asked had we even been before and did we know anything about the building and its history. We said we hadnt been before and didnt know anything about it. She said would you like me to tell you about it, we thanked her and said that would be great as we always enjoy the guides or people at these places who tell you so much history and things that you dont know. She was really great and pointed things out to us we wouldnt have seen ourselves and then she said I will just check to see if the wedding has finished now because if it has then you will be able to see the full extend of it and she radioed through to another guide a bit further along in the house who said yes the house was now again full open as the wedding had finished. It was very very interesting and so much to see and well worth a visit. The park area and gardens were lovely too and by the looks of it families come just to enjoy the park on weekends etc. But definately well worth a visit whether you are historic houses members or not.

always been my favourite place to go and visit since being little, so beautiful inside and around the grounds, lots to see inside and outside, the pond and gardens with the woodland walks are so peaceful, two parks so great for kiddies too, plenty to learn about inside and the art gallery is lovely, would be my dream to live here but sadly that’ll never happen, good that you pay to get inside the hall and it’s valid for 12 months to so can easily re visit great visit wether you like art, history or some where to go on a nice walk around

Gem of a collection, we visited for the art and were not disappointed. In fact we walked away with a few more artistic avenues of pleasure to explore, discovering artists through their work we hadn't really given enough thought or time to. Grounds are lovely and reminiscent of when local councils had civic pride. The rest of the museum had something for everyone and the team really made it. Thank you.

Really enjoyed this visit there’s a very knowledgeable team who were more than willing to explain things. You won’t fit everything in on one day. So it’s good that your tickets are valid for a year

Regrettably I had my dog with me so unable to go inside the house. The building is a beautiful looking house with one wing covered in ivy. The grounds and gardens are lovely complete with the ornamental pool

The grounds of this place are vast and have a fantastic play area for children. Beautiful hall,the visit was made so interesting by a very informative guide. He was in the first part of the hall. Told us so much in a very interesting and humourous way. Even let my daughter demonstrate the three legged sewing chair!

We have visited before however this time in the long gallery was a fantastic guide. Didnt get her name unfortunately but she gave us so much information opening up little hidden doors with the stories behind them. It felt like we had our own private tour. Just unfortunate we didn't get her name as she definitely made our visit that day

What is the entrance fee to visit the hall
and is there concessions for pensioners

According to the internet it is £2.75 and £5.50 for an annual ticket - I cannot remember how much we paid or whether there were any concessions. It is worth a visit though as the grounds are lovely especially on a nice day.

Can you still visit the grounds and walk around after 5pm? Is it just the hall that shuts?

Good for coffees,they let you sit outside with your dogs and provide drinking water this is popular with dog owners.

Yes, it's very good. It's in the old stables block & has a wide choice of menu ranging from soup & salads to full blown chips with everything! Can throughly recommend it.

Towneley hall is open Monday to Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 12.00 until 5pm, last entry is at 4pm, we are closed to the public on a Friday. There is an entry charge of £5 per adult , tickets are valid for 12 months and children and students are free.
