Visited here as a couple in March after snow, so we thought the waterfall was very impressive and well worth the 4 Pounds entry fee.
There’s a nice walk included as well which takes you around the top of the waterfall with stunning views.
After, we had delicious cake and coffee in the Cafe which was perfect!

It is probably very serene in summer but I like to see a waterfall in full flow after heavy winter rain. It was 10 pound for the family and we pottered around both lower and upper pathways. It was slippy and awkward in spots as we expected. We were on-site for about 90 mins, plus time for a coffee - the pub was closed. We have some great photos and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. One of our teenagers is keen on rocks and pre-history so we had a great guide, willing to highlight every feature of interest - one small improvement would be some more detail of the geology and formation on the guide or on information boards.

we went in December after lots of rain, so it was really impressive. well worth the trip to see it. You go through the cafe at the back of the (closed) pub and pay £4 each. When the cafe is open, you can pay by card. The walk through the woods and up the hill to see the falls is pretty impressive too. It is worth the entrance fee.

We read online that you can still access the waterfall in winter via the turnstile… we went and there was nothing there. Everything shut.
We went back the day after to after double checking the website to see if it said it’s closed and again completely closed off. There’s no way to access this waterfall other than going through the cafe and a turnstile which seems to be shut contrary to what the website says…

If you check our official website you will see that it actually states the waterfall is open at weekends during the winter months and at certain times through the week but advises visitors to telephone and check weekday times in advance.
I am sorry you were unable to view the waterfall on this occasion but hope you will understand it simply isn't viable to pay someone to be on site from 10am until 4pm to serve the few people that visit the area during the winter weekdays every single day.

£4 each to see a bit of a waterfall.. we walked the upper and lower level in about 20 minutes...very unimpressive...save your money & go for a pint instead.

Stunning walk in private grounds, a hidden gem in North Yorkshire with riverside and woodland walks. Lovely little cafe to recharge before you leave

Lovely visit, have read other reviews on here complaining about the £4 entry but we didn't mind, happy to support a local owner. Recommend doing both the upper walk and lower! Tearoom was quirky too :)

With family visiting from Africa, an impressive waterfall, gorge and surrounding landscape, especially when there is plenty of water flowing. The sound of the falls in the confined bowl around it is wonderful. We even got a rainbow when the sun came out. The lower and upper walks are both worth doing and the views of the surrounding Dales are lovely. Well worth a visit.
Our only difficulty was trying to find our way out of the site as the exit through the cafe is not especially clear!

I would like to photograph the falls in the evening, when the light is low; can I arrive at 4:45pm or closer to 5pm and still be allowed access? I was wondering if the last admission is earlier, given that it closes at 5pm.

It’s probably about 3 or 4 hundred metres - tops - I’ve taken my mother there and she thought it well worth the walk

Is there a good (but relatively short) walk to or from the waterfall or the Green Dragon Inn? Want to make an afternoon of it and walk a little further than between the pub and the waterfall

After seeing Hardraw force come out of the Green Dragon pub and turn right. Walk to the stream. Locals walk along there. However, there is lots of walks in the area. Just follow your nose. Beautiful area.

Can you actually walk behind the waterfall? Are there other waterfalls in Yorkshire or Cumbria where you can do that? It sounds amazing!

There's a path behind the falls but notices state that you should not walk behind them. On the occasions I have been there peoplehsve ignored these but the path looks narrow and wet - obviously! There is also Aysgarth Falls not far away - not as high but a lit wider and in their own way just as spectacular. In Cumbria there is Aira Force near Ullswater. Brilliant walk through woodland and a great place to spend a few hours.
