My wife and I just loved this museum. It is run by very enthusiastic volunteers and I congratulated them on a job well done. We were amazed by the number of buses and other exhibits. I am a cycling enthusiast and there were bicycles exhibited that I had never even heard of. There is also a nice little cafe and the entry fee is a bargain. In addition. there is a nice little Morris museum and there was a 1954 Morris Oxford in which I learnt to drive.

Everything you want in a transport museum. Super friendly staff, great collection of vehicles and obviously curated with passion. The highlight for me was the superb Morris car collection, with a huge amount of archive material. The Oxford bus section is fascinating and varied with great insight to the important local history with actual buses from different eras dotted around in various stages of restoration. It was a nice touch to see a lot of archive photographs, motoring signs, bus location stops and advertisements hung on the walls. As this is an active museum, don't miss out on the opportunity to visit the workshop, as you can see vehicles being worked on. It is Covid secure with the mask rule and sanitation stations. Located next to Hanborough train station, it is very easy to get to from Oxford (10 min journey) on the train.

Many thanks for your very supportive review which describes all the main features we have tried to include in the visitors' experience of us. If you are able to re-visit sometime, perhaps try for a date when we take one or more of the buses out on public roads?

Visiting the oxford bus and tram museum was a trip back to my childhood when we went everywhere by bus and coach. Here are the vehicles, bus signs, uniforms, pictures of oxford of yesteryear and many other things. A wonderful collection of the bicycles made and sold by William Morris who went on to found Morris motors ( The works as the Cowley factory was known) also things from the building of Morris cars/ vans. To be able see bus being restored in the workshop a true labour of love. Well worth a visit to see part of our social history being preserved and story of every day life that we take for granted. Something for everybody.

I visited this my brother, son and nephew. We were lucky that it happened to be a special day for bicycles and we were able to try out riding a Penny farthing, a tandem, a tricycle and a few other unusual bikes. Many knowledgeable volunteers showed and explained the different features if asked.
The children enjoyed being able to visit the top deck of the bus and 'driving' Ernie, the toy bus. There was lots of different exhibits including working motors and we spent nearly four hours here including having lunch at the cafe.
My son and I traveled by train and it was right next to Hanborough station.

I visited the Oxford Bus Museum in Long Hanborough with my ten-year-old goddaughter and her mother and we planned our visit for a Sunday so that we could also enjoy a ride on one of the lovingly-restored double deckers. The bus was polished to perfection and the banquette seats upstairs just made for family groups! The conductor had a lovely, entertaining manner and gave us all authentic bus tickets, using what would have been the pricing keys to personalise the ticket for any passenger under twelve with their age.
Our trip (the drivers vary where they go) began beside the railway station at Long Hanborough and then followed the perimeter of Oxford Airport before returning along a road that runs close to the Oxford Canal - so we saw trains, planes and narrowboats en route.
We were also lucky enough to speak to the driver after the ride and discover some fascinating insights into how the museum acquires and renovates its vehicles and exhibits. The museum itself is crammed with vehicles of all kinds, photos, memorabilia and information. Everyone working there was clearly passionate about the museum and incredibly welcoming to visitors.

Thank you for your favourable review. We felt visitors had generally enjoyed themselves and the sunshine helped. We are planning to be running buses on our Country Bus running day on Sunday 13 June, offering more choice than yesterday, all being well! Hope you can come to see us again.

Helpful and enthusiastic staff. Really interesting history of Oxford transport. We could only go on board a couple of buses (due to Covid restrictions). Shop to buy refreshments and toys. Toilets available. Mother, infant son, and grandfather attended.

Excellent museum. While the buses and Morris cars are superb, the ‘supporting material’, including walls of excellent photos through the years and displays of fascinating material (uniforms, memorabilia from the bus social club, Morris Motors Band etc) is outstanding. Great friendly place to visit and outstanding value. Oh, and dogs are welcome too!

Thank you for your review, you may also have noticed two cats as well but really they live next door. As this summer rolls on we plan to reintroduce bus rides and hold some special event dates. If you wish to return quite soon, please look at our website for the details. Stephen.

Other reviewers have got it right; this is a great little museum, and incredible value for money. Staffed by volunteers who obviously love their task, is a museum that will appeal hugely to a certain type of person. It takes us back o the days when buses were more full of character than they are today, and when each city or large town had its own bus company. It is a nostalgic journey amongst old friends (for those of a certain age). The buses have obviously had many hours of loving attention lavished on them, as they appear to be in as-new condition. If you choose your day right (1st and 3rd Sundays and some school holidays) you might get a ride on one of them. We did, and it wasn't just a little potter down the yard, but a half-hour journey round Oxford airport! All included in the £5 a head price! The Morris Motors Museum is also well worth seeing. I couldn't believe that one 1960s car had not been restored, so pristine is its condition. You also gain an understanding of the great man, William Morris - Lord Nuffield

Many thanks for your complimentary review which we feel will be helpful for prospective visitors even in these difficult times (when we can re-open etc). Strictly speaking the bus rides themselves are free as we do not have an operators licence. We are demonstrating the exhibits as a museum when we take buses out on the road.

My 3 year old grandson is mad about buses. Do you have a route master or RMT that he could go on, as he wants to get on a bus with an open platform and a pole at the back. He also likes to go "upstairs". It is 55 miles and 1 1/4 hours each way to get to you.

Hello, Yes we do, a Routemaster is only one particular type of rear entrance bus with an open platform and a pole in the centre of it. We have static examples he can go on and on our two Santa Sundays and 1 Jan 2018 we will have one or two of them offering free rides - subject availability and weather conditions. Why not call before you set off to see if these and/or other types of old buses will be out on the road?

Hi
Do you allow small dogs to come in? We are hoping to visit in 2 weeks while staying in the Cotswolds for our wedding anniversary but we are bringing our little man (Walter the Pug) with us.
Thanks
