Brought my 5 year old son here for the firs time earlier today, and had a thoroughly enjoyable morning out. The displays are well laid out, and featured some genuinely interesting aircraft (Saudi Lightning and RAF Harrier GR3), both indoors and out.

I would have liked to have spent longer than the couple of hours that I did, but there is no cafe or dining area (though there are picnic tables to bring your own) and so with the little one I have to cut the visit a little short. In fact, the absence of somewhere to sit down and eat was the only reason I didn't give it a five star rating, but I do understand that, as a relatively small organisation, they do not perhaps have the resources for this.

That said, would thoroughly recommend if you're looking to spend a morning or an afternoon looking at some fine aviation history.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit last Friday with our 2 year old grandson. Very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers who gave us a tour around the museum and had some interesting first hand stories to tell.

I went to the Museum last Friday. Had a great time there. The team working that day would very helpful and took it in turns to provide information on any of the exhibits we were interested to know more about. I think this is valuable as much better to listen and ask questions than sometimes just reading the information. The team there were all enthusiastic and welcoming. I’ve joined as an animal member as it’s always nice taking people there who haven’t been before. It’s a small museum but what is has is very interesting if you like aviation and the history of Gatwick Airport.

Visited on Friday 26th. A great museum. Clean, modern, well spaced out with helpful volunteers who help give you the best experience, they are so knowledgeable about their collection.

The exhibition starts with the history of Gatwick airport, when it wasn’t an airport (I won’t spoil it by saying what it was) and goes on to either the internal or external exhibits, it’s your choice.

There is ongoing restoration of some aircraft and many of the aircraft were, for me, iconic.

We were guided round the Shackleton M3 by a pilot who flew them all over the world and experienced the atomic explosions at Christmas Island!

For the avid aviation enthusiast it’s a must do, for people with small kids there is a helicopter they can sit in and use the controls. It’s very accessible for wheelchairs, except for the Shackleton.

Great job guys, I hope to visit again soon when you rotate some of the exhibits out of storage onto display and will look out for your engine runs in the summer.

Very much enjoyed our visit to this gem of an aircraft collection.
Very knowledgeable, friendly staff/volunteers are on hand to give information when requested.
Great to get up close to some classic aircraft but the highlight for me, was being shown over the Shackleton Bomber by a wonderful gentleman who had served in the forces and actually piloted this type of aircraft on many missions. Brilliant!

Difficult to find something new to say - the reviews below say it all - a hidden gem, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, great exhibits. No it is not the RAF Museum at Hendon, but in some ways it is better, more personal.
The History of Gatwick room is also an eyeopener showing how it developed but also reminds you of some of the Airlines that no longer fly - DanAir, Monarch & British Caledonian. Fascinating pictures (and a model) of the Beehive terminal (the world’s first circular terminal building). A very good way to spend a few hours on a November morning that doesn't break the bank either.

I found this wonderful museum by accident, and I'm very pleased I did. Bigger than you might expect with very clear signage and descriptions of all the exhibits. Add to this the helpful and enthusiastic staff and you have a great half-day out. Tea, coffee, ice creams and snacks at very reasonable prices with, of course, a gift shop - again, not expensive. Definitely going back - next time with the grandsons.

Firstly a terrific museum with wonderful and helpful volunteer staff.

The highlight of this trip was a guided tour around the Shackleton aircraft by one if the guys who used to fly these things. What a mine of information this man was and he had a lovely catalogue of personal stories to add to the experience too. I could have listened to him for ages and I hope he writes all these tales down at some point. This was worth the experience alone. Mind you, the rest of the museum and visiting experience was far from shabby either.

The tour of the sub hunter as I call it was a great experience. The tour guide Nev said he served upon one as a navigator. He kept my teenagers engaged in the history with great passion and experience. Wish there was more to look into, but overall experience was educational about the area and history of Gatwick Airport. Then took a drive to the Beehive. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

we took the grand kids to the museum and weren't disappointed, after many years of going past this place I finally decided to do what i had promised myself and go in.
this place is a must for any self respecting classic aircraft buff, we took two young boys and they loved it, not much in the gift shop for them but they found some stuff they could play with in the 40 acre grounds.
we did the the shack tour with nev who was so passionate about his time in the RAF serving in the shack.
kids love sitting in the pilots seat and they both had a go.
i spent way too long talking to (sorry his name has gone) but believe me his knowledge was great and really had passion for these planes sharing many photos with me that were his personal albums, i love these places and this is for me well worth the family ticket price, as a local to Crawley I'm aware of the struggles they've had with the rubbish council over the years, but hopefully with public support they'll be able to secure a future in prime Gatwick real estate.
and when the airport picks up be sure to go to their prime aero spotting site near the runway.
and be sure to check their website for days when the EE lighting is fired up in the field..
