An imposing structure forming a focal point in the older part of Kingston. Evolved over the centuries with each period added something to the architecture. Some fine Victorian stained glass. Above all enjoyed reading the numerous plaques.

My daughter and I stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon for a quick drink as her friend was working in the cafe. Normally the cafe offers lunch items but they didn’t today as they were catering an event. We had a quick drink of juice on a hot day and it was very pleasant. The play area was closed today, but is available most days. The church is absolutely beautiful, as it has been redone inside. You can see it’s history posted along the walls, which is very educational. The cafe is handicapped accessible, which is lovely.

This is a lovely old church that sits in the heart of the town. Ancient graveyard sitting around the outside. Little coffee shop as well.

If all you want is a hot drink and snack this is the place to go. Good reasonably priced coffee and tea, home-made cakes, sandwiches, paninis, baked potatoes. Plenty of space between the tables and a beautiful peaceful location.. Shun the mega-chain coffee houses and feed your soul as well as your tummy!

I have been going to this church since I was born and it is so nice! The atmosphere is so welcoming and friendly, and it is also great for kids. There is a Sunday School which runs every Sunday by volunteers and they do a lot of fun stuff, like biscuit decorating, making cards, games, drama, building models and more! They also have great services at festivals like Christmas and Easter.

This lovely medieval church is certainly worth a visit, and is directly behind the Ancient Market Place in the riverside neighbourhood of Kingston-Upon-Thames in the south-west corner of London. It has been a focal point of the community for centuries. In the 9th century it was originally part of the Saxon royal estate; in the 10th century it is said that Athelstan, and Ethelred the Unready, were two of the seven Saxon kings of England to be crowned here. The present church began in 1120 under the orders of Henry I, though most of the building you see today dates from the 14th and 15th centuries, particularly the nave and the chancel. Such an extraordinary history for a local church warrants it to be high in a ‘must see’ list for the neighbourhood.
The interior, with its gracefully colonnaded nave, is simple a uncluttered, ensuring a restful and serene environment and atmosphere. It boasts a number of interesting monuments and wall tablets, including a 14th century wall-painting of St. Blaise, the 16th century tomb of Sir Anthony Benn, and a 17th century marble font attributed to Sir Christopher Wren. The beautiful stained glass window on the west front was added in the 19th century. It’s generally open to the public daily, though hours may vary because of current COVID restrictions.
The fine flint stone exterior, with stone dressings, also reflects its medieval construction , and adds to the graceful ancient structure. The tower is brick, and replaced a wooden structure in the early 1700s.
The grassy church ground is popular with people want a quiet spot to sit, to eat lunch, or to just contemplate. Ancient headstones line the perimeter of the yard.
Do visit to appreciate its history, ancient architecture, and its current contribution to the local community. It’s in the heart of Kingston and there are no accessibility issues for those requiring mobility assistance.

We went to visit this lovely old church in the centre of Kingston after Christmas shopping. We went to look at the decorated Christmas trees in the tree festival. Afterwards we went to the cafe in the church for a well deserved coffee and a slice of cake. It is very good value and it was nice to sit and relax while listening to the church organ being played.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover a daytime cafe being run here. I “accidentally” dropped in here with my mother who was staying with me on an extended visit. The ambience was awesome especially with the backdrop of spectacular stained glass windows and an art exhibition being held by local artists. We had yummy hot chocolate drinks and shared a toasted cheese sandwich. Both very yummy ! The boys helping out at the till were friendly and helpful although the supervisor lady making the sandwich seems a bit busy. Nevertheless, she was pleasant too.
I shall be returning !
