It wasn’t crowded when we visited in October and we got the place to ourselves for some brilliant photos. It’s a fascinating architecture.
Please do not park on the road and definitely not near the resident houses as they will get your car clamped.
We parked at the Ardingly reservoir car park and trekked the 2kms from there. It was extremely muddy but I believe it will be better in the spring and summer months. The approach to the viaduct was like a tough mudder. But well worth the trip.

Popular Instagram spot: so as there are only 4-5 spaces for cars in the laybys, it's probably a good idea to get here early inn the day to be sure of parking. The viaduct is a dramatic site, carrying the London - Brighton railway across the plain of the River Ouse. Up close it's even more dramatic as there is a trompe l'oeil effect: it looks as if the viaduct's arches loop back in to infinity. But that's why people are instagramming it. A marvel of Victorian engineering.

The Ouse Valley Viaduct is on the Brighton Main line and there are regular trains running on this line to take you over this beautiful viaduct.
The best way to identify it on your journey is on London bound trains. Leaving Haywards Heath the viaduct is just a couple of miles north of the station so you can anticipate it.
The viaduct has been beautifully maintained and has some beautful columns. There are some beautiful views on both sides of the train so sit back and enjoy.

What an amazing bit of construction , well worth a stop you only need a 20 minute stop , short walk from the road . You can park but it is a bit dodgy room for about 4/5 cars each side of the road on a bit of mud. Would be nice if they made it a proper parking area for safety as the road is fast but not too busy. The parking area comes up fast so slow down on approach as it does have pot holes at present so you need to take care. Wow wow so glad we had a look at this viaduct . Create some fantastic photos.

Great walks around the area, beautiful reservoir (with car park) nearby, and awesome photogenic Victorian architecture. An easy day out especially if you're driving in from London.

Wow this is something else. Not really an organised tourist trap but a big footpath going to it. Farmer sensible!

The scale of this viaduct built/completed in 1842 is stunning. The same engineers built the Lewis Rd viaduct in Brighton. The number of bricks used must run into the millions. A fantastic structure.

Visited on Tuesday 25th August 2020 Coming back from a Dorchester Mini Break. Having seen this viaduct on an Instagram post from a friend I logged it as a site to visit and on the route home from our mini-break we were able to do that but it involved a detour given sod's law that the normal access route was blocked. Once we did find it there was very limited hedge parking. I walked on my own leaving my wife in the car which was a pain if you want to take photos inside the viaduct arches. Minus my wife I used timers to enable me to set and then run to leap like a salmon up the base wall to get in shot. Needless to say my salmon days are over as the welt on my knee testified after but I still go the odd shot. Would be cool to come back when it was sunny and maybe sun rise or sun set to get the shadows.

As a resident I can tell you there is just about parking for 2 or 3 cars as others replies have suggested. Recently (lockdown lifting in May 202) lots of cars have been left dangerously on the main road. Such cars are starting to be towed. If you plan to visit this lovely viaduct, surrounding countryside and the walks then park further away and make this is highlight of the walk mid way around!

Could anyone please tell me if you need to contact someone if you want to visit the viaduct to take some photos? or is a public place to visit?

There is a foot path that runs right through the viaduct. Moving away from the footpath may be tricky - sometimes physically so as you move along the viaduct due to the structure getting harder to climb into and marshy ground. I have sometimes walked round the field at the back to get a good view square on, and never experienced difficulties. The view from the (public) road is also good.

I'm planning to surprise my boyfriend for his birthday tomorrow (1/12) we love walking & I want to take him somewhere different where we haven't been before-how easy is it to find from haywards heath station-to walk to the viaduct & ardingly reservoir...many thanks Antida

Not easy... you would really need a taxi out there. It is actually closer to Balcombe station, and if you are keen walkers you could work out a good route from there that took in the viaduct.
could I make a campfire here and not get into trouble?

I think not. The land is not public, although there is a footpath across it. And a fire at the bridge itself would be regarded as a serious offence.

How do you get to the viaduct. Is there a path?

There's a footpath that passes under the northern end running from the minor road along side. About a 200 yards walk from the road. Tredge.
