Took the water Taxi from Boca de Tomatlán. Was very impressed with the little town of Yelapa. Beaches are beautiful and so are the people around here.

We took a panga (boat) just south of Puerto Vallarta to Yelapa! It was an unique experience and lots of fun. We finally arrive at the village and descend on the beach. There were several places to have a drink or food. We walked around the little village. It was quite a throw back into a place that time sort of forgot. Then we took the trail up the mountain to the waterfalls. Along the way there were lean-tos where the people sold their wears and souvenirs. When we finally reached the top it was very pretty. There is a large waterfall with refreshing water. It definitely cooled you off from the trek. I think you could swim there and there were a few shops and a place to eat. We sat in the little cliff side restaurant and enjoyed the view.
It was rather steep at times but our group of people from 60 to 80 years old made it fine. If you are looking for a little adventure, I would recommend this place!!

We went to see the waterfalls and spent good money for the Yelapa tour and there was almost no water at the water fall. I would not recommend this tour. We walked up a hill on a hot day and through town and saw a lot of trash and laundry hanging up. It was very disappointing. We went to a beach after and that was OK, but we could have gone to the beach by our hotel for no cost. Pick a different tour.

We went to the waterfall April 21. There was very little water running down. The water in the pond was quite dirty.
It would be incredibly beautiful when there is more water

We took a water taxi from the dock in Boca. If you want to do a 1.5 hour hike, get off the boat at the beach. We were taken to the town where we started the shorter hike. We should have gotten off at the beach. The shorter hike from town takes you past some vendors. The longer hike from the beach takes you along a road where you will see how the people of Yelapa live. There are homes, chickens, four wheelers and donkeys along the way. There a couple of little stores to buy water or a snack. The trail isn’t that well marked. When you are near the end of the trail you must walk through a small gate going left. There is a small sign so be sure to heed the sign. We didn’t do this and ended up on a donkey trail.

Everyone comments on the waterfalls (3 1/2 miles down the jungle path) but I feel the walk to it is just as spectacular as the falls at the end. Don’t go if you’re in a rush because you will miss the butterflies, the beautiful jungle flowers, the calving pen with possible newborns in it, the donkeys and horses, the many beautiful chickens and roosters, the exotic birds and Mc Caws, the local path side bars and coffee stand, the cowboy homes, the ATV repair stand, the bridge crossing the River and El Manguitoes on the other side with great food and drinks, the fruit trees (bananas, star fruit, Jack fruit, papayas, mangoes, passion fruit,) the gardens, iguanas, geckos, tent campground and local children with their dogs. It takes time to absorbe it all so spend a few days in Yelapa and make this waterfall hike worthwhile.

We visited Yellapa after many times putting it off… much of our experience was tainted by .. the Adventures tour company rushing the entire trip… and giving us only 30 minutes to hike a very steep on cobbled stone streets though the village … with many villagers hawking everything from jewelry, clothes hats puppies and photos with donkeys and a huge iguana ! Plus Mexican pie! No time to be nice or politely look .. just keep moving .. saw the waterfall which was ok and picturesque but little room to stand and enjoy unless you wanted to go into the pond .. many did.

I would go back to visit Museum . Eat pie.. and enjoy the people … nope no time.

Walk back went another way also steep up then with crazy uneven steps going down .. no railings ..but all survived..

But river was too high to cross back to the beach so went an alternate route which required an unaided trek across swift water with little footing .. not sure how some kids made it.

Yellapa deserves a better visit .. none the less .. the falls are the number three thing to do because there are only 3.

Un lugar muy lindo para visitar. No creo que es necesario hacerlo con una empresa de tours. Puedes ir en el water taxi y si te encuentras con "Ernesto" el será un guía que te lleve a descubrir la cascada. Excelente anfitrión

Although there was a lack of rain, the waterfall was still beautiful. It’s an uphill hike to get to the waterfall, but worth it when you arrive. When I was there, a small tienda was open to purchase bottled water.

I was very keen to visit the falls at Yelapa, but was slightly put off by tour companies wanting $85 us pp. So I was delighted to discover water taxis ran from the pier in downtown PV, for only $21 pp return. Yelapa is only accessible by boat and the journey over was very pleasant, the route to the first waterfall is steep in places and you pass a lot of stall owners trying to sell their wares as tourism is there only source of income. They were all polite and not at all pushy. I did not think the falls were well signposted but the locals were all pleased to give directions and put us back on the correct path. If you do not fancy the steep walk up hill, it is possible to hitch a ride on a dune buggy or a donkey for a modest fee. There are actually 2 waterfalls, the first and highest is about 30 mins from the beach , it was not very striking when we arrived as there had been little rain in the previous month but it was still flowing and made up for some great photos. The second waterfall is a further hour away and I am told its shorter but has more water, but as we were tight for time we decided not to visit the second falls.
The last water taxi back to PV leaves at 4 pm and we did not want to risk missing it.
The beach at Yelapa is sand, fine and beautiful. There are quite a few beach restaurants and if visitors make a purchase of drinks or foods, these restaurants will allow free use of their beach chairs and umbrellas. Take advantage of this, its a lovely beach.
