A previous reviewer said it was relatively easy ... I’d say it does require a moderate fitness level as you need to cross the creek on fallen logs and clamber up some steep inclines. Nonetheless the effort is worth it. It’s a beautiful little water fall in a perfect setting in a fern filled sandstone gorge. We were enchanted! Just make sure you wear footwear that can get wet and has something grip.

This bush walk can be done at any age! I am in my 60s, in ok shape physically and I was able to do this bush walk in 1hr. I went with my son-in-law & our two dogs. You must walk through an old tunnel in order to access the trail. There are some spots where you have to climb over logs and parts where there are steps cut into the terrain that provide an increased level of difficulty. We took our time on the way back to enjoy the scenery & wild life such as water dragons, crayfish skinks, birds & lizards. The trail is not marked and we took a path that was on the side of the valley. On the way back we found an easier path that criss-crossed the creek. Take your time getting there to appreciate the scenery. It will be worth it once you get to the falls.

A very enjoyable scenic bush walk to Ida Falls. Although it is not sign posted there is only one spot where you could take the wrong path. The correct path is the one to the left over the log bridge to cross the creek. (If you take the wrong path to the right it runs out a little further on) The sections where there are steps cut into the side of the slope can be a bit tricky especially if the track is wet. The return bush walk takes a little over an hour.

This is a very scenic walk probably graded as moderate mainly because there are a few tricky sections like using steps cut into the embankment to climb. It is not too strenuous but it could be slippery in wet conditions and also because you will need to walk across a couple of logs crossing the river. The narrow track follows the water through narrow sometimes thigh high vegetation but this all adds to the fun of this walk. The walk ends at the base of Ida Falls which was flowing freely after recent rains when we visited. Often waterfall walks have steep climbs up and down to get to the falls but this walk is mostly flat with a few short rises.
The start of Ida Falls walking track is found off Bells Road, Oakey Park. Just after you cross the bridge look to your right & you will see a sandstone tunnel that passes under the railway line. Go through the tunnel and head to your right and you should come to the sign marking the start of the Ida Falls Track. We had 3 adults & a small dog in our group and the round trip took around 70- 80 mins walking time but allow plenty of extra time to stop and look around along the way.
Note: our visit was nearly a year ago & this posting was not available at the time of our visit. Conditions may have changed.
