A few weeks ago my partner and I discovered an injured canadian goose on our property. We contacted W.I. and they told us to bring the goose in. Upon arrival we made it clear in the paperwork we filled out as well as all the individuals we talked to that we would be happy to provide a forever home for this goose if it could not be released into the wild.
I contacted W.I. three weeks later and was told the goose would not be able to survive in the wild and was not a good candidate for as home since it was "mean," according to the clinician.
The goose was not mean. No animal is mean. They are simply responding to their environment. Any clinician who states that an animal is "mean" does not even have a rudimentary understanding of animals and animal behavior. It is more likely that the clinician is mean.
The clinician then told me they euthanized the goose. Then I was told that in the state of Oregon it is illegal for any wildlife to be given a second chance on somebody's property. So why was I told beforehand that the goose "was too mean" to be a candidate for a home???
I experienced too much double-speak and hypocrisy when talking to the clinician and other staff members.
Touring the facility, it is glaringly apparent that animals are kept in very small cages, most especially the reptiles, but also the bears, cougars, and birds. They are all bored, pacing, and treated as lures for tourists.
Had I known my $40 donation was going to fund euthanasia (and a roadside zoo's operations) I would have rehabilitated the very friendly goose myself.

You can feel the love that the staff have for their rehabilitated animals. They bring ambassadors out of their cages every hour for personal meetings with guests. I got an upfront look at a skunk. Great experience for kids.

Really enjoyed wandering this place for several hours. The animals are well cared for and fairly active. Lots of opportunities to interact with staff and the animals as there are meet and greets every half hour. Great for younger children.

What a pleasure to find this place. Not a ton of animals but all were taken care and not caged like you may think. All the animals had plenty of space and roamed around in the natural setting of southern Oregon landscape. Volunteers were friendly, knowledgeable and available for questions. We spent a lot more time there than we expected to as it was so peaceful and enjoyable. Every half hour they have a different animal talk, they have a member come to an area and talk about the animal, where it came from how it came to this location and answered any questions you may have. Could tell they really cared for the animals in their custody. Long drive out of our way but well worth it (not far from I-5, just 50 miles south of where we were going)

Tranquil forest setting for these animals to rehabilitate in. My favorite was a tiny weasel named "popcorn"! I had never seen a colorful King Vulture before.
There is a cute gift shop too.

This is a wildlife rehabilitation center with a very dedicated staff and volunteers. They have contributed and collaborated nationwide to rescue, rehabilitate and in many cases, release wildlife back to natural habitat.
It is a very good and educational place to visit for the entire
family.
We are supporting members and whenever we have visitors to our area, we take them to Wildlife Images for an informative and highly educational visit.

We love this wildlife rehabilitation center. We’ve been able to have few wildlife encounters with their ambassadors including a private encounter with one of their wolf dogs, Agnes. The staff is warm and friendly.

I saw a program on TV about Steve Irwin’s family and Wildlife Images Rehabilitation & Education Center. That prompted me to visit WLREC. My wife and I really enjoyed the visit.

The mountain lion came up to the fence and was less than two feet away. I could hear him breathing and saw his breath in the cold morning air. You are very close to the birds of prey also. The bald eagle looked huge. It was quite an experience.

It is a little out of the way but worth it. We were there mid January and they already received 10 new birds/animals this year. Some of them can be rehabilitated and released and others must remain at the center. Your visit will help support this wonderful organization.

We've been to Wildlife Images several times and have learned that there is no guarantee that the animals will cooperate and make an appearance when we're there. Our visit in September was extraordinary. Every single critter came out to greet us! There are volunteers who are available to give extra information on each animal. On this day we got lucky, and there was a staff member who practically gave us a private, narrated tour of the entire place. Such an interesting place to visit -- and these are good people doing good for the animals in their care. We'll be back -- again and again!
