It is a beautiful area and you can get in a really good walk. Hours if you really explore. Lots of dogs but they were well behaved. My only criticism is that there are too few public restrooms. The one at the parking lot is the only one I know of. Considering the high numbers of people visiting and the amount of time a walk may take, more facilities are needed.

This is a nice spot with a ton of fun to be had. Easy walking, close to the water therefore close to what you want when you first stopped.
Enjoy your relaxing time while here, we did..

I normally like to write positive experiences since there much more fun to share.

I wasn’t impress with this particular park, there’s just way too many better trails along the road that are much worth the time.

This region is too flat, not much to see. I did noticed a ton of dogs and maybe this is more for walking your pet.

Sandy River Delta is a fantastic off leash dog park - hundreds of acres of open grassland where dogs can run together and wooded trails [a few of which require leashes] that go all the way down to the Sandy estuary where it meets the Columbia. There's an area of the Sandy River where an oxbow formation forms a natural swimming hole that dogs can jump into from the banks & swim together when they aren't playing chase in the shallows. No surprise - dogs love it !
Currently free but USDA are threatening to charge $5 admission which will prevent a lot of students, seniors & people with big mutty dogs, pick up trucks & not a lot of money using it and turn it into an upper middle class pedigree dog & high end SUV place - which would be a shame. So go now & if you get a chance email USDA to keep it free

This is an area just east of the Sandy river. Many times it is referred to as a "dog park" because it is excellent for walking/exercising your dog. The park is virtually flat and is good year round for use.

We stopped here just because we saw a marker. And I'm do glad we did. Plenty of parking. I walked onto the bridge to take a photo. See my photos for a history.

The quaint town of Troutdale is cute enough but the old bridges, great hiking trails, swimming, biking and huge dog park just take it up a notch! You can get your Lewis and Clark fix right here!

Sandy River Delta used to be part of a cattle ranch owned by Reynolds Aluminum and was used to graze cattle. Since then it has gone to the dogs, but in a good way! The US Forest Service took over the land in 1991 and turned it into a multi-use recreational area. Now this area is open for various recreational uses such as biking, hiking, horseback riding, and walking your dogs. Once you get to the off-leashed areas your dog can have the full freedom to run free and play.

Sandy River Delta has several trails. Open fields. Wetlands. And there is even a bird blind that bird watchers might find very useful. This is the Maya Lin Bird Blind. Keep in mind that part of this park has been set aside as a wildlife habitat and is totally off limits to people and their dogs.

Sandy River Delta is about 1,400 acres in size and is located between the Sandy River and the Columbia River, just north of I-84. It’s now part of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The closest town o this park is Troutdale, Oregon. If you are traveling on I-84 in either direction take the Exit 18 to Sandy River Delta park. I happened to be driving through the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. So I just continued north beyond Louis and Clark State Park. The road took me under I-84 and went straight to Sandy River Delta recreational park. It was as easy as pie.

This recreational park is a day use only park. It is open from Dawn to Dusk. And there is a parking area that has a couple of picnic tables and restroom facilities. There is no water here so you might wish to bring that with you. Parking is for cars and vehicles with trailers. And there are no fees to pay to use and enjoy this park.

Dogs are required to remain on their leashes in the parking area. And they are also required to remain on them on and within 100 feet of the Confluence Trail. But that’s not all, you are required to clean up after your dogs as well. Yeah, and that’s a fact, you can count on. That’s why there’s several stations spread around that provide bags just for this very purpose. You can take a bag with you as you start off on one of the trails. And you know something, pard. I saw plenty of folks that had brought their dogs to this park. So I got it in my mind that this is a very popular place for dog lovers.

I also noted that I didn’t happen to see a single horse the whole time I was at the Sandy River Delta. I wonder, what trails do they use? And this nagging question percolating in my noggin. It was eating at me like yesteryear's cancer. Does Roy Rogers have to clean up after Trigger? Does The Lone Ranger have to clean up after Silver? I didn’t see any stations with horse bags at the ready. What gives? They have four legs just like your run of the mill dog does. Hmm, you don’t suppose there’s a bias for ranchers, rangers, and cowboys, do ya? Maybe it just goes with the territory.

The trails that they have out here are not really all that long. Their distances from the parking area are mere trifles. Almost insignificant. They are as follows:

Boundary Trail 1.5 miles
Confluence Trail 1.25 miles (dogs on leash)
Meadow Trail 0.5 miles
Ranch Dike Trail 1.25 miles
Old Channel Trail 0.75 miles

Sandy River Delta gates are closed nightly:
10 PM to 6 AM from Jun. 1st to Sep. 30th
8 PM to 6 AM from Oct. 1st to Nov. 2nd
6 PM to 6 AM from Nov. 3rd to Mar. 8th
8 PM to 6 AM from Mar. 9th to May 31st
