We finished everything we wanted to do in Philadelphia and decided to spend the weekend visiting battlefield sites: Paoli (not a lot there but a fun place to see), Cliveden (only way to see a part of the Battle of Germantown), but we saved the best for last: Brandywine.
We got there before the visitor center was open so we picked up a map and drove to the Ring house and took a few photos outside. Then over to the Gilpin house because we wanted to see the 300 year old sycamore tree. Wow, that was amazing. Almost worth the whole trip there.
When we returned, the visitor center was open so we watched the movie. When we finished the tour guide was there and was starting a tour at the Ring. He gave one of the best talks about the battle and Washington that I've ever heard. I could have listened to him for hours. He added so much additional information that I'd never heard before. Such as just because they said Washington was "at" the Ring House didn't mean he was "in" the Ring House. He could have been in his tent outside. (We saw the tent at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia.)
Then we all went over to the Gilpin house and he gave a shorter talk over there that was just as interesting.
I am so grateful that there are organizations that take care of these historical places so people like us can visit and learn so much more than just reading about it in books. And I wasn't to thank Christian Sanderson for living in and taking such good care of the Ring House all those many years ago.
Thank you all at Brandywine and especially our tour guide. I wish I would have written his name down.

Great history. Great tour guide and very helpful staff in the visitors center. The Gideon Gilpin House was a very interesting site with a knowledgeable tour guide. Even my 11 year old son said that was his highlight. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting. Who would ever think that these pristine fields were once a bloody battlefield.

Very enjoyable way to spend a couple hours walking the grounds and visiting the few Revolutionary era buildings. Some great exhibits on hand, and you can get guided tours, as well. The Gilpin house is in great shape, even has a room believed to be the tavern from nearly 300 years ago. Huge 300 year old tree not far from the building is really cool to see. The Benjamin Ring House is where Washington had his headquarters during the battle, and it's a remarkable thing to see.

Excellent, small, well-curated historic site. Friendly and knowledgeable folks, NPS rangers and interpreters. Visited on a rainy weekday morning, so the level of attendance was small, but both interpreters and gift shop staff were cheerful and outgoing. Recommended.

Great tour and knowledgeable and humorous tour guide. We were there the day after Thanksgiving and had a wonderful afternoon. Lots of interesting history, I wish we had more time because there is a lot to digest. Thank you for a great tour Patchogue. The admission is inexpensive.

The visitor center area for the battlefield park features at least two historic buildings and borders the historic Brandywine Baptist Church and cemetery. Whose congregation has been worshipping since 1682. Historic buildings on the property include the Gideon Gilpin House and George Washington's headquarters. The stately stone structures are well maintained and impressive. The grounds have expansive lawns and beautiful forest land. Organized and self guided tours are available for seeing the larger battlefield.

There is a Visitor's Center open on set hours - review website for specifics before going - with free parking. The VC has a small gift shop, museum, and shows a film about the events that took place. You can also take tours of two houses on site (again see hours). Most of the battle took place a few miles away; there is a brochure that gives directions to those spots. Signs are located at each.
