We most certainly enjoyed Professor Kerrigan's awesome magic show and his storytelling was wonderful! This all takes place in the Fairfield Inn, which is a "gem" all by itself! To top it off with a wonderful dinner as well... if you are in the area, please do not hesitate to take an evening and truly be entertained! It is well worth the visit!!

I reviewed this show on the Fairfield Inn site, unaware that this site existed. We really enjoyed the magic show and local ghost stories told at the dinner theater. The food was delicious and before the show we were able to tour the historic inn. It was a fun evening.

This show was performed by "Professor Kerrigan" a fantastic parlor magician and storyteller! When we were there, there were quite a few children in attendance and he was able to keep all of there attention throughout the show. Completely interactive and loads of fun. The food was wonderful and the staff were very attentive. It is off the beaten path, but a diamond in the rough!

As Professor Kerrigan so delightfully and skillfully showed us, the original "interactive" entertainment did not require WiFi and a smart phone! And there is more to card tricks than playing Free Cell on your computer! He works his magic before your very eyes....literally in that he is never more than an arms length away. It's interactive in that along with his expertise in sleight of hand and illusions, early in the performance the Professor casually asked everyone's first name then throughout the performance called on each of us by name to assist him with his various tricks. I especially enjoyed that because in contrast to me who loves being amazed by what appears to be impossible but you know is a trick, my wife is a skeptic who always insists that it must be a camera trick or the like. Or I should say USED TO insist that until the Professor called on her to assist him with an illusion done literally before her very eyes that left her with her jaw hanging in amazement (and mine stretched in a huge "I told you so" grin!). I also admired the way the good Professor deftly educated us in the history of each trick but in an entertaining, not "professorial" or academic way. It's not to be overlooked that this is a magic show as was done during the Civil War era. Many of the tricks are now classics. But as he points out, many were devised or introduced during those years or the decades just prior. He uses authentic period props many of which for what he explains were called "illusion-ettes"; so named because they were devised by a famous 19th century French magician who would become the inspiration and namesake for the great Houdini.

In the last third of the show, the Professor switches from magic to the tricks behind spiritualism (i.e. séances) which came into vogue about this time. But wait! Don't let that spook" you! This is still a magic show. After telling the story of the infamous sisters who conceived the scam then successfully worked and popularized it, he demonstrates some of the "effects" they created which we now know to be clever tricks, but without revealing how they were done.

The dinner-theater is in an 200-plus year old hotel located about 10 mins. drive due West from the center of Gettysburg. We were in an upstairs dining room which added to the intimacy of the performance. Some other reviewers here found the food less than satisfactory. We were ether lucky (or under a spell?!) because the 4 of us found our dinners to be fine. Not memorable but certainly not bad. Three of us had the trout and rated it as good. I had the pot roast which was also fine. All our dinners came in good sized portions. As for the soup, the menu says that this is same recipe used by the Confederate troops who occupied this hotel in 1863. I can believe that because it tasted like something the troops would have cooked in the field. I just wish they had taken the time to loot some seasoning before they left the recipe behind. But the apple pie was fresh baked so I guess just like with the performance, if you leave him with a big finish, they'll forget a weak opening. We had a bottle of local wine which was reasonably priced (by restaurant prices). Our server was both efficient and unobtrusive.

You come to Gettysburg to take a step back in time. Good magic is timeless and the Gettysburg Civil War Era Dinner Theater is definitely worth your time.

If the idea of dining in a small historic inn while being entertained with Civil War era magic and history appeals to you, then you cannot miss this wonderful dinner theater. We especially enjoyed the intimate setting in the 250 year-old ballroom, although we were told that the main restaurant is used when larger crowds attend. For an extra cost you can order a bottle of wine that comes from the local winery, which we really enjoyed. We had a great time, enjoyed the food, and had great service. This was a highlight of our weekend in the Gettysburg area.
