What a beautiful house! I loved the tour and learning about how this house went from a two room cabin that was home to two adults and kids, to an imposing mansion for up in coming business enterprises. The views of the Susquehanna River are amazing.
I am impressed by the fact that one of the offspring was forward thinking enough to make this impressive property a museum.
She offered many family clothing items that make you feel like a guest in this lovely home.

Thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Our tour guide, Wiam was very knowledgeable. The home is well appointed and clean. The staff remained masked throughout the visit. Sat outside in swings looking at the River after our tour. Definitely recommend.

Fabulous tour of the house and its various floors. The view of the river was wonderful. The grounds were tranquil.

We needed a place to meet our son's family for a visit and chose the mansion side of Fort Hunter Park. We were right along the river. We were able to park right by two picnic tables which were under a tree and there was an area of grass there where we could all sort of distance our chairs. We ate a picnic and visited and it was great. Our 3 year old great granddaughter had space on the trail to ride her bike. AND as a bonus the rest rooms were very near to where we were as well. We will go back again and perhaps next time maybe even venture a little further in the park.

Must see if you are in the Harrisburg area. Beautiful property with q rich history. The collections are awesome and docent was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. If you have time take a walk around the property too. It's a very clean park, kid friendly and a stunning view of the river. They have many festivals in the same area. So glad we added it to our trip for the day. Admission is only $5 and well worth it.

I had a marvelous time in this very interesting, multi-time-period historical home. The docent was very knowledgeable and showed so many hidden gems that fascinated my inner history buff. I was thrilled to learn that 75% of the furnishings were original to the house. Well worth the time and very reasonable entrance fee.

This is a treasure in the capitol and you are bound to enjoy the experience. The mansion is well preserved, full of collections of the several families that have built the story of the property into the interesting tale that exists today. I was thrilled that we got to see the family bookcases just restored to the premises this year, unique and a tribute to craftsmanship of the day. Not so long that youngsters won't endure, especially since there is so much to see in each room. Really impressed with the staircase; don't worry, you can make it. Outside is tremendous, the mighty river flowing alongside a shady park with some distractions for the youngsters and a restroom facility. Your best spent vacation dollars of the day!

We stopped in for the May Day Festival. Lots of interesting dispkays as well as living history. Performance of the Maypole Dance by a local medieval organization was a great bonus!

Watch for upcoming events throughout the year to plan your visit!

A very pleasant historical house in a lovely setting - right on the Susquehanna River with views across the Rockville Bridge, the longest stone masonry arch railroad bridge in the world.

It's the staff that really elevate Fort Hunter above similar historic properties, however. Our guide, Steve, met us at the door, got us our tickets and took us around the house himself (it was a quiet afternoon so it was just us on our tour). He was incredibly friendly, welcoming and engaging and had a great sense of humour.

As nice as the house, furniture and other items inside were, Steve's level of enthusiasm and friendliness really went above and beyond to create a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable visit.

Three generations of our family (teens to 80's) and a couple other folks took the mansion tour with Steve today. He tailored the tour to our interests and brought the story of the three families who lived there - and the people who worked there - to life. The artifacts and decor are beautiful and instructive. Really well done, worth the small fee.

The one weakness of the mansion is its lack of indoor waiting area and bathroom facilities. There are facilities, but they're cold. And if you don't arrive when a guide is ready, you have to wait outside. It worked out great for us, but others might not be so lucky. Maybe Black Friday is especially tricky this way?

If your clothes and/or the weather work together, walking around the grounds would be both beautiful and educational. I love the riverside location with views of the surrounding hills.
