Very difficult to find, you need to drive through a large new build housing estate - get directions and do not follow Google Maps! It looks small when you arrive but there is lots to see and the staff are very helpful. There is a Vulcan outside but that is the only whole plane. I did the cockpit tours of the Lancaster and Vulcan both were really interesting and I'd recommend them. There is a virtual reality headset experience of a Lancaster raid which is brilliantly done and illustrates how scary it would have been. Interesting to follow the development of the Avro company on the site.

I had such a fantastic time today at the museum. Huge thanks to all of the staff who were all so passionate and informative about everything that was displayed ! We specifically enjoyed learning about the Lancaster bomber which we had no prior knowledge of but thanks to the informative staff we have learned loads about! I can't tell you how great the staff are, there wasn't one member of staff that didn't interact with us and have some interesting information to share, having people so passionate working there really adds to the value of the museum. Thanks for a great day!

This museum is an absolute wonder. It packs so much to see and so many opportunities into a relatively small space. From the Vulcan outside, the cockpit tours (Vulcan, Lancaster, Nimrod, Vickers), the WW2 virtual reality raid, flight simulators etc, this small space punches well above its weight. There is free parking right outside and it’s easily accessible for prams and wheelchairs. There is a lift up to the 1st floor cafe which serves really good coffee. What really elevates this place though are the volunteers. Everyone we met couldn’t have been more lovely. They were all immensely knowledgeable and only too happy to share their amazing stories and experiences. We can’t recommended this place enough. We’ll definitely come back again and again

There’s so much to do here! We didn’t leave enough time, plenty of tours led by enthusiastic and incredibly knowledgable volunteers. Would definitely recommend booking in for the tours and allowing a whole day to make the most of the exhibits and the knowledge available! There’s a café on site so no need for a packed lunch, small additional charge for some of the tours but well worth it!

The site is small but packed. The volunteers are incredibly enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable. The cockpit tours are fascinating and I wish they were longer. I had so many questions. The ones I did ask were all answered really well. The VR experience of going on a bombing raid, using actual recordings from 1944 was phenomenal. A really immersive and thought provoking experience. It was also great being allowed to use the flight simulator and flying the local area! I really recommend this place.

My first visit to this excellent museum detailing the history of Avro. So much information/things to see - the volunteers are on hand and very knowledgeable. Really need more than one visit to absorb it all. Highly recommended.
Access is a little circuitous at present but should improve soon - definitely worth the effort👍

We had a fantastic morning out at the Avro museum. We went went two kids ages 5 and 2. There is plenty to look at and in normal times more interactive elements would be open. This been said there was plenty to keep us entertained for a couple of hours. The volunteers were fantastic very friendly. Cafe good value and the talk by the ex Vulcan pilot was really interesting too. Looking forward to going back when it’s fully open.

Today was my first visit to the Heritage museum and I loved it

Welcomed by some great members of staff, who couldn't do enough to welcome you and help you in any way possible.

Main reception building was open however due to Covid everything was closed.

Plenty of Hand Sanitiser and staff on hand to help you or answer any questions.

Enjoyed a talk given by former Vulcan pilot under the wings of #XM603

Must mention John who runs the Facebook page. After having difficulties in booking tickets, he reserved 2 places for us and made sure that Reception was aware of our visit, and allowed us to pay when we arrived.

For any aviation nut this museum is a must. Staff were awesome, always on hand to answer questions and very helpful. Yes the cockpits were closed and simulators also. But in the current climate that's understandable. Look out for signs by the redrow homes in woodford as you could end up at a dead end.

We went on a damp and dreary day last November with our 8 year old grandson.
The visit was very absorbing with a hands on a flight simulator experience .
A Lancaster bomber cockpit and other World War Two exhibits were on show.
As adults we enjoyed the time in the cinema which showed us 1940-1945 life in the armed forces and particularly the RAF.
A small cafe kept us going.
Outside an Avro Vulcan shows the size of the planes we built at this time. We were told that the Lancasters built were tested at Woodford before being dispatched around the airfields of England for active service.
There is plenty to absorb anyone who has an interest in the History of aircraft and flying. It’s not a cheap day out though, if as Grandad, you pay for 5 people.HGW
