Interesting and well restored property with a limited number of original items. The bird and insect wallpaper is worth a visit for that item alone! Easy to get about in a wheelchair. Noted references to property being funded by slavery but didn't catch any reference to owner being mistress of George II. One significant issue - vehicle access to the front of the house. Not clear that you need to take the "deliveries" drive marked "no entry" rather than entering via the car park and that contrary to what it says on the website, blue badge holders are not allowed to park in front of the house. This really should be clarified.

It is a lovely place but some of the volunteers there try so hard to help you that can be even intrusive. The interior is quite bare due to the story of the house but overall is a nice place to see, and located in a very lovely place.

Interesting History and some nice items inside.
Not a huge amount but helpful staff explaining.
Grounds provide a pleasant walk, connecting to the Thames path.
Worth a visit while its free entry!

This lovely place has been on our to do list for quite a while, but lockdown and its closure got in the way!

Its a beautiful house in a stunning setting by the river just beyond Richmond and worth a visit.

Please put a sign post up along the Thames path, otherwise people will walk past and not realise the house is here(like we nearly did!).

One of the most charming magical sights, looking like a building from Alice in Wonderland, Marble Hill house is a stunning Palladian gem where Henrietta Howard the mistress of George II and friend of famous poet Alexander Pope, lived for 40 years. English Heritage began a multi million pound re-landscaping of the park taking it back to the original 18th century plans of Lady Howard and now almost complete. The 18th century Coach House cafe has been refurbished with outdoor seating and new toilet facilities. Currently Marble Hill has been commemorating Poppy Day with a beautiful display of over 250 large poppies, tied to trees throughout the park, representing loss lives in Richmond and Twickenham during WW1. Temporary information plaques by the cafe tell the fascinating stories of the park and residents during WW1 including revealing the site of a bomb shelter and how East Twickenham became known as Little Belgium due to thousands of Belgian refugees who made Twickenham their home bringing their skills and crafts. Nearest rail station St Margaret's and walk down Crown Road (6mins walk) to Crown Pub and then 2min on Richmond Road to gate entrance into park. Turner's House (painter) is nearby on Sandycombe Road. 5min walk from St Margaret's station

The best way to visit Marble Hill House is as part of a trip that includes Orleans House next door and across the river to Ham House. Lockdown makes it difficult in that the ferry is not running and the gallery at Orleans House is closed, but we still made the journey using the car to cross the river in Richmond rather than the ferry. In addition, Marble Hill House is undergoing a major refurbishment so cannot be visited - I look forward to seeing it when finished, along with the new gardens running towards the river.

The Palladian villa, Marble Hill House was built between 1724 and 1729 to designs of the architect Richard Morris in conjunction with Henry Herbert 9th Earl of Pembroke and became the standard model for the 18th century English country house in England and the Americas.

Built for Henrietta Howard, Countess of Suffolk, mistress of King George II, the House seems to have been in a popular location for royal mistresses. In the late 18th century the house was rented by the future king George IV when he was Prince Regent for his mistress Maria Fitzherbert, and nearby was Kendal House, another Palladian house which was the home for Melusine von der Schulenberg, Duchess of Kendal and mistress of George I.

Walking along the river was very enjoyable, and you can see directly across to Ham House.

I look forward to returning when the restoration work is complete, the Orleans Gallery is open and the ferry is running.

A rather alternative attraction to the many large homes and palaces in London. Similar to the nearby Strawberry Hill House in as much as its centred on a short period of time and 1 or 2 key people. The house itself is not particularly impressive, inside or out, however its location in the centre of the park and architectural features are. The expierence is only really brought to life by the tour which takes you on a journey through the life of the original owner. Very interesting and definitely required to appreciate. I would not reccomend for children, considering the many other interesting palaces nearby, and I believe it will be shutting shortly for refurbishment. So I wish them all the best and hope they can add more facets to this attraction for the future :)

土・日はガイドツアーがあり、それ以外は屋内をみられません。ぜひ、週末にお出かけになることをおすすめします。貴重な18世紀の建築物で、美しく復元され、隅々まで、当時の優雅な趣味が見てとれます。

A very good example of a Palladian villa built by Henrietta Howard, a mistress of George 11 who was a society hostess. The property is set in pleasant parkland which is lovely to walk around. At the moment the house is only open on Saturdays & Sundays.Entry is via a guided tour. The tour is very informative & detailed . It is well worth doing but it is a bit dry for children. There is a lot to see in the house. There are plans to extend the opening times next year. There is a cafe near by that serves light snacks. The lady behind the counter was very pleasant. The only downside was the number of dogs wandering around.
