Fun ride on one of the oldest funiculars in the United States. Takes 3-4 minutes each way. View from the top is spectacular.

It is a great way to experience Pittsburgh. Ride it to top of Mount Washington and view the city. Especially at night. If you are visiting the area, this is a must.

We round tripped the Monongahela Incline for a mere $3.50 each. Nice enough, clean cars and clean stations.

If you visit Pittsburgh, you need to ride one of the two remaining inclines at least once — why not take the Monongahela Incline, then? The fare is $3.50 for a 3-hr RT pass. Park at Station Square and ride to the top for great views of the city. Stick around for a meal.

This old Incline was a major means of transportation to quickly connect out of reach neighborhoods. It is well preserved and a wonderful way to experience the feel of what it was like over 150 years ago. At the top, it provides spectacular views of downtown Pittsburgh and its famous three rivers, the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio. Just beautiful!

I think a visit to the inclines is a must for first-time visitors especially, but also for anyone else. Going up to Mt Washington offers great scenic views over Pittsburgh and works as a fun activity, especially if one walks from incline to incline. This is an especially great activity on a sunny day.

"The Mon" incline is far more a functional piece of Pittsburgh's public transportation system than it is a must-see-and-do tourist attraction. The quirky stair step-form rail cars provide for interesting photo ops, but their shape & seating arrangement are not nearly ideal viewing platforms for the surrounding sights. The growth of trees & scrub along the inclined tracks further detracts from the views. So for tourist use, the Incline provides an unusual mode of transport for first timers & a means to reach the top of Mount Washington to take in the skyline & several bridges & views of the Three Rivers
For those wanting to use The Mon for those simple purposes, and starting/finishing at the Lower Station on West Carson Street a couple of blocks west of the Monongahela River, be advised that Google Maps & other GPS devices may not provide an accurate location of the Lower Station. My wife & I parked in the parking garage recommended by visit literature (across from the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square), crossed W. Carson on foot (no crosswalk - proceed at your own risk), and walked south a short distance on a sidewalk marked as closed to the Station building. Local signage is non-existent, so you'll have to use dead reckoning to find your way to the Incline starting point. Look for a two-story red brick building at the base of Mount Washington, enjoy the ride up, and take in the much better views at several scenic overlooks along Grandview Avenue on the ridge line of Mount Washington.

We were traveling through Pittsburgh on our way to Indiana. We only had a short time to visit and decided to stop here. We are so glad we did. Very reasonably priced at seven dollars for two tickets, the views going up the incline are phenomenal and the views coming down the incline are very good also. Suggest going at twilight so that you could see the city before the sunsets, and stay through sunset. Shylo Street is close by,There are a few restaurants here and an ice cream store. I would recommend this for families also.

Rode the incline up and walked around. Nice views of the city. Used cash to pay to avoid $1 fee for transit card- bring cash. $3.50 round trip.

I first rode the Mon when I was a little kid on a trip to Pittsburgh. I make it a habit to ride it on every visit. The price of the ticket is very reasonable and the views from up top are great and even better at night. The Duquesne gets a lot of the attention but the Monongahela gives you a different look at the Steel City. There is plenty of parking near Station Square and a short walk to the incline.

It is an inclined car that goes up about 35 meters on the side of the mountain. The view at the top is spectacular as you can see most of the city and all three rivers. The best place to start is parking at Station Square and ride up to the top. My TICO friends thought it was the highlight of the visit.

Can you ride the wheelchair onto the incline itself? We tried to do the Duquesne Incline a few years back which is not handicapped accessible, but they said the Monongahela one is....we just couldn't find parking.

Yes you can. There is an elevator to the top of the 3-level car.

Thank you to everyone who answered my question about where to park. My next question is this. I am bringing a group of 21 people with me this weekend to do the round trip ride on the Monogahela incline. How does this work with payment? Do I need to give each person $2.75 for each ride or can we pay in one lump sum??? Thank you!!

If you are planning on using the subways or busses, you can buy a day pass at the machine, also. It was $7 last time I went and you can ride the inclines and busses and subways all you want that day. You will love the incline! And the view from the top! Best view while riding incline is the bottom car, of course. I always wait for next car if I have to in order to get on the bottom car. Oh, be sure to walk around station square in back by the fountains that dance to music! Hope you have a great time, Pittsburgh is awesome!

If we park at the parking garage near the sheraton hotel on west station square drive and walk to the incline- is this a safe walk with children? Thanks!
