I love science museums, so I was excited to visit the Carnegie museum in Pittsburgh. I was a little disappointed, though. There were only a few sections we had access to (you could have paid extra to get into a Pixar exhibit, but we had seen that traveling exhibit before). Much of the individual interactive exhibits were not working. Nobody seemed to be all that interested in fixing anything either. Our Carnegie membership got us access to SportsWorks, too, which was nice. Unfortunately, more of that was also not operational. There was still plenty of cool things to see and interact with, which is why I love science museums. There was enough to make me happy we made the trip, but not enough working for it to be a 5-star. If everything works as it is supposed to, there probably is, so hopefully they fix the many broken exhibits.

We had been to the science center years ago with our small children and really enjoyed it. We went back this time with 2, now grown up - completely different experience. The science displays are interactive, very hands-on and good for children. But we quickly realized that the center is basically designed for families with children. We found it too basic for us. And beware on summer weekdays: As we walked in the front door, we were met with the sight and sound of what seemed to be hundreds of school-age children who were visiting with various summer camps. The kids we saw were well-behaved and loved the exhibits, but they were everywhere, making it sometimes difficult for us to see displays. The noise level was high - to be expected in a large cement and glass building full of excited kids. We bought our tickets, then had trouble finding the exhibit areas ... took a public elevator, then were told we couldn't be on that floor because it was a special exhibit area. We had to ask where to find a map, which should've been offered when we purchased our tickets. The submarine walk-through was closed that day due to weather, but we had seen it in the past, and it is interesting. For the entertainment our family got out of this, we felt this was pretty pricey ($97 for 4 of us!), compared to other venues we visited during our time in Pittsburgh. Our high points: We did enjoy the train display - so many details, and you can take your time to walk and check it all out. In summary: Nice for families with kids.

Where do i begin praising this wonderful place? The current PIXAR exhibit is enthralling with vibrant displays and numerous interactive stations which allow you to experience the actual CGI process. During my 2 visits with different friends, everyone was engaged with the interactive opportunities, from very young children to old folks, like me. The Rangos Giant Cinema is stunning with its 3D capabilities. These are only two of the many options in the multi-level building and the Navy submarine moor adjacently on the Ohio River. Be sure to step outside to get a spectacular view of "The Point" with "The Golden Triangle" as its backdrop. This is Pittsburgh's claim to fame!

We've been to many science centers like this - in Philly, Louisville, and Boston at least - and this one was good but probably slightly lesser than the others. It's 3-ish real floors of stuff to see, plus a submarine.
The submarine is not one of the more interesting subs I've been on (it's smaller and at least the traversable part is only one deck), but it's still worth doing. Get your tickets for that (free) as soon as you walk in the door
The other stories are very standard stuff for science museums - how water flows, the human body, space, engineering with blocks... all of which is fine but not quite what's on offer at Philly which is a little more modern. Also, fewer kids play places than many others, except for the smallest kids who have a dedicated play area on the top floor
We spent 2 hours and probably could have done another 30 minutes, but not much more.

One day not enough. My son thoroughly enjoyed and learnt some new information. As a whole family, liked the laser show at the planetarium.

The kids (age 3,6,8) and adults enjoyed the day! We played, checked out the submarine and saw a planetarium show. The sports section was really cool too. We liked the variety of topics and can’t wait to go back. Overall the $1 for the locker and $6 for parking was nice.
HOWEVER !!! We did not like the masked people walking around. In full animal outfits due to a local conference. I checked out the FAQ and didn’t see anything about a dress code but we believe these masks are not appropriate. Either the admission people missed them or they skipped paying.

Disapointed that the best we can do in science is elementary child science. Nothing for adults here so everyone leaves Pittsburgh because there is so little to do for adults. Look I'm sorry I don't have any kids but that doesn't mean my life matters less. I always hear parents w/ kids always telling leaders and management to have the people without kids do more work because they don't have the time and that they also should get payed more because they have kids. look if I am doing more work then I deserve more pay. This is why our city is going to crap more every year. This one creepy masculine looking lady at the science center told the other parent and an employee that she doesn't feel comfortable w/ lggbt people at that place. The employee just nodded her head and did nothing. Never going back.

We visited when the Titanic exhibition was there but unfortunately tickets for that were sold out the day before we got there. We learned that we needed to get those tickets online at least days ahead of our visit (we didn’t realize it was one of the exhibits. We purchased our regular tickets the day before we went). We would have loved to have seen it!
Some of the floors seem geared towards younger kids. We asked at check-in what they’d recommend for our kids’ ages and their recommendations were great! We saw two shows - one at the planetarium and the other at the Works Theatre. We also had the chance to tour the USS Requin. The self-guided tour of the sub does require getting signed up for it ahead of time - great to do when you arrive. We were able to do that the same day. We also played in the Highmark Sports area which my kids enjoyed. We ate at the Riverside Cafe at the museum and found it to be affordable and it had some options for those on a vegan diet or with other dietary concerns.

The Science Center was hosting the Titanic Exhibition at the time of our visit. We also saw the USS Requin and the Miniature Railroad. There were so many other exhibits to see, but we only had time for these three. All were wonderful and I highly recommend.

Thought to take the incline with the kids then go to museum. How do you get from Incline to the science center?

Are the exhibits geared towards kids or can a group of adults appreciate the museum?
Skrevet 9. november 2018
The exhibits are geared towards kids as in there is lots to touch, cool things to see that attract kids, and things to figure out. It is also interesting to adults on a different level because the explanations about science adults will process on a deeper level, the submarine is great, and lots of things adults would find interesting to look at too. If the Lego exhibit is still there all the adults and children found that amazing!

On average, how long do you suggest it takes to experience the center?
Skrevet 8. april 2018
It depends on your energy level and time constraint.I go frequently with my grandchildren \.We do 3-4 hours depending on the programs(EXCELLENT)scheduled.A lunch break is helpful in their spacious cafeteria (buy or bring).Plan on more time than you scheduled.Always a fine experience for ALL ages.

You could easily spend the entire day. We got there around 11 and stayed until closing (actually, a little after because the laser light show we saw didn’t start until 5:45 p.m.).

There is plenty of parking across the streets in the stadium parking lots. I would assume there is RV parking nearby as they tailgate for football games
