How about a discount for off season? It was a nice trip with my family but come on, over 50% of the outside animals were gone. It seems like a 50% discount should be in order. There should at least be a warning about closed exhibits. The ticket prices are too high for what we saw.

There isn't much here that you won't see at other zoos, but that does not mean it is not worth the trip. We had a great time on a slow day (we did that on purpose) and saw some very active animals we don't normally see active. You can get pretty close to a lot of animals - including the closest I have ever been to a giraffe who was very interested in my sandwich. It is well laid out and a clear path guides you through the most efficient way around. All in all, a great experience.

Family and I had a great time at the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium. During our visit it was raining (not holding it against the zoo) so of course some of the attractions were not operating due to the weather conditions.
Overall cleanliness - I would rate 5 - There was no trash laying on the ground and the walkways were all neat and tidy. The foliage was neatly trimmed and maintained. The exhibit glass appeared as clean as possible. We arrived at open and stayed until close and exhibits at open were very clean and tidy.
Amount of Animals on location - I would rate about a 3.5 - there were a fair amount of animals at the zoo. Some of them were not on exhibit, this was either due to weather or other complications. Giraffes, Zebras, Rhino, Anteater, and Sea Otters were all unavailable at the time of our visit. Staff was able to identify the reason for each situation. The entirety of the “Kids Kingdom” was closed due to weather. Wasn’t overly happy with this as it was a light rain, but again, Not holding this against the zoo as I’m sure they were following the instructions they were given. The notable mentions at this Zoo was their Polar Bear (Snowflake), African Elephants, Amur (Siberian) Tigers, Bat Exhibit, Penguin Exhibit, and Gorilla Enclosure. These were all unique compared to other Zoos that my family and I have visited.
Food - Easy 5 - The price you pay is in line with other Zoos and Aquariums. About 20$ a person. BUT, the amount of food and quality of the food was a huge surprise. We had the Chicken Parm and Chicken Tender Meal which was enough to leave us more than full. It was also very good compared to other park style restaurants we’ve been to. We ate at the Jambo Grill. All of the other food courts were closed during the time of our visit.
Overall, we had a great time, and we hope to return in the future with better weather to experience the rest of what was normally available.

Gift shops are way overpriced. No animals in alot of exhibits. Chidrens part was closed. Gorilla and orangutan exhibits are a shame. Tickets are way to high.

Been a long time since I visited the zoo, but was a disappointed. I knew some things were not operating after Labor day, but that was not an issue for my wife and I.
It is a nice walk thru the zoo, but it seems many of the animals have a small area and not much room. Also, while some animals prefer to be alone, many instances where certain animals have no company.
And for no apparent reasons, several of the animals we wanted to see were not available and the zoo staff would simply say "oh they are in today" with no other explanation. The staff either didn't know, just weren't that friendly, or hiding something.
These animals included the polar bear, orangutans, rhinoceros, and maybe others.
There were no apparent weather issues, so I do not know why or was not told why we could not see these animals.
Would not recommend this zoo.

This is the ABSOLUTE WORST Zoo I have ever been to. No wonder it's not accredited. Management and Staff should be horrified by the conditions of animals and exhibits
Very upsetting and terribly sad.

We had a very enjoyable time at our visit. The zoo layout is a circular path that if followed you will pass by the enclosures of the animals. Taking your time, your visit should take about three hours. It is summer and hot in Pittsburg, so the animals were not very active. But most all were outside and visible. Being seniors, we moved along, however those with small children lingered.

Lovely time at the Pittsburgh Zoo.
Conveniently located about 6 miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh.
Lots of free parking available in their main lot.
Visited on a hot Sunday at around 1pm it wasn't too crowded...better than I expected.
Admission is about $20-28 per person for timed tickets. There is a slight variation i prices depending on day you visit...weekends are typically more as opposed to during the week. Also the "flex" ticket option which is untimed, costs the most at $32 for adults. Free for children under 2.
Lots of great exhibits. The zoo is fairly linear and you can see most (if not all) the animals and exhibits following the main path.
Lots of great animals to see...some highlights include: Seeing the tiger on the rock near the waterfall, the open kangaroo area which allows you to get up close to the kangaroos including a baby kangaroo, the aquarium with a large central tank featuring lots of animals including zebra sharks, another large tank on the bottom level of the aquarium featuring a massive arapaima, the gorilla exhibit with the younger and baby gorillas and the seal area during feeding/training sessions.
For those with children, the children's play area is great with some great obstacles for them.
Lots of food shops around the zoo selling drinks and stadium-like foods($6 drinks, $15 burgers, $15 chicken tenders). There are also a few souvenir shops...some interesting things in there but I couldn't pay $12 for a fridge magnet.
Of interest, I found that some of the animals were taken inside during my attempt to see them again at around 4pm. Particularly the tigers and lions. It could be due to the hot day but something to keep in mind if you plan on visiting later in the day.
The zoo is very well maintained with lot of staff around to help and teach you.

I brought my entire family that are from out of town to the Zoo on Tuesday July 16, 2024 (7 Adults and two children). Our experience was an embarrassing. Shame on the Zoo Management for taking full prices from customers on this day. I am a Yinzer this visit was was extremely disappointing to me and my family. Many exhibits were empty, concessions were closed and the exhibit area around the Polar Bear Pool was a disgrace. No Rhino, No Giraffes, one Gorilla, No Polar Bears?? The Children's Zoo should be permanently closed because yes it looks like it is closed. What are you doing?? The Gift shop is way over priced. Give the customers their money's worth or turn this park over to some company or organization that will run it right. I will not bring my family back to the Pittsburgh Zoo.

Went to the zoo yesterday. Take into consideration, Pittsburgh is lucky to have a zoo like this. The Pittsburgh Zoo is a first class zoo, do not get me wrong, bit it was a pricey day of a little over $200 for three of us to get in and eat while we were there. On a positive note though, the zoo was well staffed and even though it was hot, we saw every animal with the exception of the rhinos, the polar bears and the kangaroos. The zoo is well kept and the the landscaping is very natural. Very few animals are in "cages", they are essentially in small representations of their natural habitat, as best that can be done. The Pgh Zoo does a great job of getting the most out of the space they have. They also do a great job of making feel like you are not in the city with creative landscaping. We were there with our 15 year old daughter and she said that she wanted to come back with her friends. It should be noted that the animals are not in cages, but natural enclosures, so you might not get a great look at them every single visit. Some of the best views we got in the past were in the winter and on rainy days.

Do the electric scooters handle going up the hills well and are there brakes on them coming down hills?
