My experience at Arsenal Bowling Lanes has brought to me to my first review! Last night was our first time at Arsenal (we were very excited)! As soon as we walked in, we were approached by the most rude, condensing employee I have ever came across. I'm not someone who usually complains or puts down a business, however the way that he spoke to us truly made me feel like Ashton Kutcher was going to pop out & tell me i've been Punk'd. He was rude, talked down to us and after telling him it was our first time & that's why we were confused he completely brushed us off, rolled his eyes & truly made us feel less than. It was sad that someone that miserable is working at such a fun place.
With that said, the older gentleman who was distributing shoes saved the night. He was so kind, helpful and made our night so much better after the uncomfortable situation we dealt with upon arrival.
Arsenal, you're a truly a great business but should absolutely re-evaluate the employee who who was working at the door on Saturday, 11/25 @ 9 pm.

I thought this was a cool place with lanes upstairs! Never thought I’d see that! When we got there we were unable to bowl because they were full. Told us an hour wait. We came back in an hour and bowled. We weren’t sure how to get the game started. Thank goodness for the people next to us. Not a whole lot of balls to choose from, probably because they weren’t put back. I hear the bar is a fun place but we didn’t visit it.

We had a recent work outing here for about 35 employees. From my first conversation with the manager (Joe) and throughout the entire process and event everything was first class. Every employee was friendly (especially the young lady at the bar) and the bowling was fun and the food excellent. We had the entire back section to ourselves and these lanes are in better shape and we never had any issues with the lanes as I do at many of the newer more modern lanes.
The music they play is great and everybody in our group had fun! The catered food was excellent and a nice diverse selection and the beer menu is expansive.
We will do this event again every year and this is the spot for a great bowling event. Parking is plentiful on the side street and the abandoned church behind the lanes. We had 35 guests and no issues parking.

I came here this afternoon with a few friends, around 4:50pm. I'm not much of a bowler, but seeing what a cool old alley this was, I thought I would give it a try as well. There were no other customers at all, but the employee at the desk told us we were not able to play. My friends asked why not, and he said "not until after 6." I had assumed there was something posted somewhere about polishing the lanes or something, but absolutely nothing was posted. The employee, Joe, wearing a Mt. Lebanon sweatshirt, said "we are busy." Again, there were NO other customers in the building at all. He said something about 4:30 leagues (it was nearing 5pm, with not a soul in the place, save for an older man working, and this young "attendant"... I use quotes because he was the opposite of attentive...) My friend politely said, "oh okay, well, is it alright if we go to the bar until it's okay to play?" Without looking up from his cell phone, which his face was glued to this entire time, Joe rudely said, "for an hour and a half??" (as if visiting with your friends for 1.5 hours was somehow over quota, and perhaps the bar was just there for decoration...) Still, Joe did not look up from his phone; he was extremely rude, clearly did not want our business, and couldn't even give us 2 minutes of his attention. My friend said, "sure! We can wait at the bar..." Joe flat out told us no, we were not welcome at the bar; we had to leave. We asked why, and he said, "they are busy changing bartenders." Huh? What kind of massive debrief is required to switch bartenders? Are they exchanging Top Secret briefings, with the codes to the nukes?
We said we were trying to give them business, and he said he did not care. My friends said that they were offended at his rudeness, and couldn't he at least put his cell phone down while he talked, and so Joe violently threw his phone on the counter and shouted, "I am giving you my full attention now!!!!" I was in utter and complete shock at how we were treated. Our crime? Asking to spend money at his establishment. My friend asked to see the manager, and Joe shouted, "I am the manager!" Seriously? You're the manager? I'm not sure if he was making this up or not, to avoid getting his actual boss, but assuming he was not lying, people attempt to spend money at your business, and you rudely tell them to go away? They throw you a bone and say, "oh no problem, we'll spend money at the bar and wait to play..." and you tell them that they are not welcome? I thought this must be a joke, it was so ridiculous. I am still waiting for the crew of Candid Camera to come out and tell me this was all a joke, it was so unbelievable.

First, we didn't get to bowl. Second, it was a Tuesday at 5pm...... Obviously we thought that would be a less crowded time to go. The place was empty except for a few people at the bar, BUT we were unable to bowl. They closed all 22 lanes down for bowling league. Ok, fine. How about indicate this on your Facebook, at least. We are from out of town, went on a recommendation, only to be turned away. What a waste to drive 25 minutes and find/pay for parking, just to find out that you can't bowl. Will not try that again.

This legendary bowling alley becomes gifferent when one goes to the bar for food and drinks. Great staff too.

Location: Good spot in Lawrenceville. Street parking is tight and troublesome. Narrow road on Butler Street and usually a good amount of traffic. Park off a side street somewhere and walk over. It's above Kickback Pinball Arcade which is a great time below.
Venue: Clean and retro. Old terminals and has the classic feel of a bowling alley. It doesn't try to hard and is made for those who enjoy the game without all the fluff. They have a pool table in the back/bar lounge that has a slight lean on it, most of the sticks aren't straight and they have limited 21oz sticks.
Staff/Service: Unfortunately this is where this place needs to improve. The doormen act too forceful for the situation. They are pushy for id and have the hotdog-neck cross-arm attitude which is completely off-putting upon entry. There isn't a welcoming smile hospitality from the crew, and don't expect to get floored by either the service desk or the bartender.
Food/Drink/Bowling: The food is a little pricey. The bartending doesn't require any skill. The beer selection and liquor is limited. They have a $10 cc minimum which makes for a situation if you only want a beer or two. Think very plain menu with drink options. The bowling is fair priced but at the end of the day its a bowling alley. This is a tough place for bringing kids due to ball sizes and the age issues at specific times. They also have certain restricted hours at night and college nights that not only force a flat fee but also have 21+ requirement.
Conclusion: If you want an fun bar and bowling/arcade experience go to Zone 28 in Harmorville (20min drive from Arsenal.) If your in the neighborhood, it's something to do before your show time at the Row House. However, don't make this your destination for a fun night or you may be disappointed.

Owner was incredibly rude. My dad's 63rd birthday and we weren't allowed in because my dad didn't have his ID. Ridiculous. I can understand if we knew this was the case when we made reservations or even if the owner was nice about it. But he wasn't. At all. Not sure what he gets out of being rude to customers that want to give him money. But never again. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.

Great nostalgic lanes with cheap beer and great music! Check out their website for weekday deals. It's been a Pittsburgh legend for years.

Went here with friends while in Pittsburgh for a wedding. Very cool place fun atmosphere.Alot different than other bowling alleys I've been to.
