Wayne Art Center recently opened again for indoor art lessons and it is a wonderful place for artists of all skill levels. Instructors are high quality and our child has enjoyed his experience over multiple classes he’s taken over the years. The teaching is not limited to just art, but also music and cooking.

A friend came to work with pottery she had made one day. I asked her where she made them. She said "The Wayne Art Center". I found this wonderful place right in my back yard. Since that day, now over one year ago, I have been going there for pottery classes. I must say, I am having the time of my life, making beautiful things with my hands. They have wheel pottery classes and hand built classes. The instructors are wonderful and patient. The hours are very accommodating for people that work and people retired. As a result there is quite a mix of students. Not only do they have pottery but jewelry making classes, painting and cooking. They have classes for kids as well that coincide when school is out. Finally, they have several art galleries with shows throughout the year. It is a great place to be!

I have been taking ceramics at the WAC for the past year. The instructors are nice, very helpful and enthusiastic about their craft. In addition there are the assistance who keep the ceramics section in order and run the kilns, who are helpful and great at ceramics in their own right. In addition to classes there are multiple open studio times, which are well attended by students and teachers and assistants are often present, to offer advice. The personnel are what gives the WAC a feeling of community. Great place and I highly recommend joining.

We frequently go to the Wayne Art Center since we live in the area. At holiday time, different artisans sell their wares. I have purchased very nice jewelry and other gifts at this time. Varying classes are offered throughout the year enhancing the Center's appeal. Frequently the venue is used for musical presentations.

The favorable location of the Wayne Art Center (WAC) in the greater Wayne area and just off the Radnor trail always presents meaningful exhibits. I went to see the current 118th anniversary exhibit of the PWCS spread throughout the spacious rooms of the WAC. As all other forms of art, the purist watercolor landscape or display of flowers retains its meaning but the scope of the genre has also expanded and here includes portraits, sometimes with tender sentiments, specific locales, imagined real and unreal scenes of the mind and much more. Many artists have also moved beyond the use of pure watercolor and its impressionistic often fleeting qualities and have included more pronounced elements such as gouache, fluid acrylic, watercolor pencil, acrylic with collage elements, mixed water media and many other variations. This variety makes for an interesting fluidity of display. Equally, awards have honored the most varied works. It is a fine exhibit and I was glad a came. Whether walking on the Radnor trail and making a detour to the WAC or coming for a specific viewing, this exhibit will not disappoint.

The exhibit closes on November 19, 2018

In addition to the excellent classes and exhibits, there is a new daffodil garden created by the Community Garden Club at Wayne. An abundant display of daffodils greet visitors in the spring, adding outdoor art to indoor art.

As winter eases into spring, I went to see this year’s 13th International Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Art Quilts (March 16-April 28) at the Wayne Art Center. I expected special creations since evolving visions and interpretations, unusual materials, and ever more specific crafting technology are de rigueur these days. And true to form, this Art Quilt Elements is a stunner in just about every aspect. The exhibition consists of 46 traditional and other innovatively fashioned quilts and related works of textile art that were chosen from 379 US and international submissions. They were selected, curated and presented with an eye toward visual aesthetics and craftsmanship in two ample beautifully lit rooms.

Geometry, haphazard lines, squares and a plethora of real and imagined forms morph into tipping points, flora, fauna, landscapes and ingenious other creations that in addition to their craft also make statements about our natural environment, the vagaries of urban settings and the attempt to seek balance in one’s personal and public life through quilting as an art form. Whether you are a quilter or simply appreciate art, this exhibit is a feast for the eyes.
Don’t miss the “bombing outdoor fiber installation” that will also be on display on the grounds of the Wayne Art Center for the duration of the Quilt Elements exhibit.

The Wayne Art Center adjoins the Radnor Trail and as I walked on the trail I realized that soon the explosion of colors in the exhibition will be mirrored in the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Enjoy!

The establishment is absolutely gorgeous, to start. There's an expansive garden and beautiful stone work, it's very clean and its grandeur is splendid. A beautiful gift shop, but the most impressive thing has got to be the gardens. They're marvelous without going over the top. That said, the summer camps aren't quite terrific but are pretty good, but the quality in no way parallels the price. It's very expensive but not very professional at all. I enrolled two girls in the cooking class summer camp and they were younger than the rest of the campers but not by much. The camp counselor therefore didn't trust them based solely on age and they did almost no cooking- their assignments included taking out the trash unsupervised (walking across the parking lot to a dumpster) and scouting for ingredients that were not in the pantries, and being scolded for not being able to locate them. This class costed hundreds of dollars. The art class, however, about drawing and shading was nice as they spent time in the garden and were well looked after- well supervised and cared for. The business is, however, very nice in looks and pretty nice in quality, not including the awful cooking teacher and cancellation of classes the day they were supposed to start.
