Visited for the first time in August. We took a theme park vacation, hitting 10 different Amusement Parks on the East coast.
Kennywood was a must for its history and amazing old coasters. We arrived early and were met with a terrible parking situation, stuck in ma line of traffic to get to "1" person charging credit cards (no cash allowed) in "1" hut in the parking lot. We sat in traffic for 2 hours waiting with no signs on the road for directions on what to do. (And if there were signs, they were small and unnoticeable to out of towners) We watched traffic on the opposite side going nowhere while we crawled. We wanted free parking but ended up in paid assuming everyone had to go this way. Very unorganized in all the Parks we visited for parking.
Once in the Park, due to the excessive wait for parking we decided to purchase a Speedy Pass. It looked and sounded worth it, except for one major issue that wasn't explained- Wi-Fi is non existent in the Park! Several times we had to go back to the front of the Park to log into the next ride because without Wi-Fi your dead in the water. We found this out being a party of 4 that even cell service was non existent trying to contact each other via text message. This was our only Park we had terrible cell service. Frustrating and taken advantage of on the Speedy pass put sour taste in our mouths.
The Park itself was sad. Eating area's were overpriced, not cleaned, garbage overflowing and employee's we observed that really didn't care, probably because they were getting low pay. Several rides looked tired, dirty and falling apart and some were even closed including the premier Steel Curtain. The only plus giving the 3 stars was the reason we were really there was to ride the Classic Woodies. They were all great and we enjoyed them. Phantom's Revenge was also very good.
It was great to finally visit this relic and check it off on our families bucket list, but it really needs better management, cell service and a new parking system. One and done for us. We hope its future get better because the classic woodies deserve better.

I went to Kennywood with family on Sunday 10/09/2023. We already knew going in that Steel Curtain, Aero 360, and Turtle were going to be closed for the day, and we had accepted that. However, the park was scheduled to open at noon and once we entered the park at noon no rides were open in the entire park. It wasn't until around 12:30 when the rides finally opened. Speaking with locals, we came to find out that this park frequently has operational issues such as this.
Black Widow, while scheduled to be open per the website, never opened at all that day. Phantom's Revenge and Swing Shot didn't open until about 2 hours after the park opened. Lines for rides were reasonable throughout the day, never going over 30 minutes for any one ride.
Once the Phantom Fall Fest started, the crowds got noticeably heavier. The waits for the haunted houses were averaging 45-60 minutes even though the lines physically weren't that long. The issue was the sheer number of speedy pass people which caused the regular line to crawl. The staff was also only letting a few people in at a time with very long intervals of time between people being let into the houses.
The houses themselves were actually very good. The quality of the houses was on par with Dorney Park and a step up from the houses at Hershey Park. We were only able to do 4 out of 6 houses though due to the poor operations with the lines.
Overall, Kennywood is a good park. It's frustrating seeing a park that could be great and has so much potential being dragged down by shoddy operations.

Not a good value for a mediocre park. I grew up in Pittsburgh and this park has gone down so much over the years. Plus the violence still remains. Try not to be year when the evening comes. Also if you are going there take S. Braddock Avenue to (right at the BP) Monongahela Avenue which will take you to the Rankin Bridge. You will save a ton of time by not having to sit in traffic on South Braddock Avenue. The traffic on South Braddock is ridiculous which Kennywood does nothing to help alleviate it.

Love this park … second time here in two years. Great rides, a number of historical landmark rides, phantoms revenge running awesome. Minimal lines, free parking, great food choices. A solid family park which keeps coaster enthusiasts happy. Clean, good customer service, lots of seating. Well designed

We made the trip from Mississippi 's Gulf Coast on the recommendation of a friend and it did not disappoint. Being an elderly couple, there were places to sit and enjoy the young ones. The laughter of children was the best medicine. Coming back next year.

Been going to Kennywood for decades. The park is very well maintained lately - definitely noticeable that everything seems to be cared for - plants, lighting, painting, signage etc. I appreciate that b/c for a while there it was going down hill. Anyway, visited the park yesterday and it was a great experience until we got to the Exterminator - which quite honestly took the wind out of our sails. We waited in line for 2 hours and 15 mins - more than half of which was in the “holding cell” concrete block room with at least 150 other people. On a beautiful sunny day we were cooped up in there breathing stale air while tons of “Speedy pass” people were prioritized to ride. I don’t know what the ratio is but it seemed that for every 10 speedy pass people one set of “regular line” people got to board. There are two speedy pass lines - one of them you can’t see until you exit! No wonder it took forever!!! It was extremely frustrating to say the least. I wanted to bail on the line but we had waited for so long so just stuck it out. Everyone else waiting around us felt the same way - no one was smiling anymore. I’ll never ever ride the exterminator again and it is one of my favorites. I do not think this ride should be part of the speedy pass because of how few people board each car - it is just too slow of a process. Also - Kennywood - PLEASE get rid of the concrete block waiting room - it’s just awful - it looks & feels like a prison. Other than that - all of our other rides were fun - especially the Thunderbolt, Racer, & Sky Rocket! Black widow broke down while we were waiting in line and the Steel Curtain was closed as usual - it has never been operational in my last 3 trips over two years to Kennywood! Still love the park, and highly recommend it, just don’t plan to ride the Exterminator unless you buy the speedy pass.

The park itself is very nice. They are an older park and have kept some of its classic rides such as The Whip. There is a good mix of rides for younger and older riders. The park has a decent amount of shade along the walkways with many benches to sit on.
Some of the issues we ran into. We were in line for a ride and where finally about three people away to riding when they said there was a problem and the ride had to be fixed. So we had to leave after waiting for about 30 minutes. Shortly after leaving we noticed one of their newer rides that had a very long line made a similar announcement that there was a problem and that ride was shut down for awhile also until they could fix it. This would not be the last of the shutdowns. We went to go on a water ride and were told it was closed due to issues so we went on another ride. When we came back the water ride was open so we got in line. We were three quarters of the way down the line when again the ride broke. This time we stayed in line and waited for them to fix it. These were just the rides that we noticed had to be fixed while we were there and only one of them was an older ride.
We also noticed that the new roller coasted the Steel Curtain was closed for the day. We later found out that this coasted closes a lot. One of the people we were with had been to the park three times since the coaster opened and every time it was closed! Many of the kids rides were closed, they had signs up rides were open and staff was rotating but they were not. After a few hours they then put up signs saying the ride was closed.
Another issue we found was that if you are from anywhere but the local area you will be taunted by employees because you are not a Steelers fan. Everybody has their teams but when you are a place that should be attracting people from outside your local area you should not taunt the people from outside the area that happen to like other teams. You will also notice that Kennywood wants to think they are right next to the Steelers stadium. Everything is Steelers, which is weird being a family adventure park.
Some of the positives. The lines were not too long for a park. (This could be because of the issues listed above). Going up to one of the newer coasters in the afternoon there were only about 15 people in line which just seemed weird.
The food selections were typical for a park. They did offer a large cup that you could buy and then refill at any drink station which was very popular on a hot day. You do get a discount if you buy more than one at a time. The ice cream we had was actually good for a park.
If you want to go to an older park that has some decent rides we would suggest going here but be prepared to get heckled by employees if you are not local and having a good chance of rides being broken. And for the Steelers fans getting mad at this review you should know that whatever city you go to with a team they don't treat you in a negative way and that there are many teams across the country that have a much larger following than the Steelers.

(Steel Curtain broken 50% of season) , (raging Rapids broken most of season) black widow never open been closed 90% of season , aero360 never open why pay to go to park when 30 percent of your best rides are never open

My husband and our 3 kids had the most AMAZING time for my son's 11 birthday!!! The ride operator for the Kangaroo was awesome and made it SO much fun! We will definitely be going back next year!

We are from Kentucky and we have family in Pittsburgh. We decided to try Kennywood again after we had a bad experience in the past there. This time was not a disappointment! It threatened rain all day and yet only had one bout of it for about ten minutes. We got there after the park opened and stayed until closing! The newest coaster, the Steel Curtain, was walk right on. We rode it many times. The rides there are so family oriented. We went on everything! The food options were not wonderful. We went into the johnny rocket and the chicken tenders were hard and tough. Everyone did love the french fries with cheese and bacon and nobody had a complaint about the ice cream. The games are pretty expensive but that is everywhere. The only negative that I see is some of their rules are rather ridiculous. My niece was treated like a criminal because she had clown makeup on. They said to take it off her face. They had 3 security guards waiting for her to make her take it off. My brother asked the reason and the guard said it was for facial recognition. Seems to me they could recognize her easier with makeup on her face..and then they made my other niece remove a soft crochet ball from her bag because there are no ball shaped items allowed in the park. (She has severe anxiety and uses it in lines to help stay calm). But they have large stuffed plastic balls for prizes? And one last issue was that the ride operators were not well trained in handling a wheelchair disabled man in entering and exiting rides. But, overall, this park was enjoyable and we will visit again.

I doubt it since they sell mostly season passes..Good question. They do have picnic pavilions which are rented to corporations etc.
Can I use my steel curtain. Cups for refill this years 2022 because of the pandemic we did not come for a few years
