My friend Diane and I took a motorcycle ride to Hagood Mill for their SC Fiddlers event and then decided to give Soapstone out for their famous fish fry. It is located in a beautiful part of SC and when we arrived we received a warm welcome and a wonderful meal. If you are in that area on the 3rd Saturday of every month except November and December stop in for a great experience. Then stick around and explore the grounds. Their history and the graveyard are quite beautiful and touching.

The fish-fry held every 3rd Saturday of the month is something you must do! This historic church and community helps to keep the church afloat through this monthly meals. It's more than fish--they have ribs, some of THE BEST fried chicken, pork chops, etc...The veggie offerings are off the chain. SO GOOD. If you want true Southern cooking, come visit Soapstone Baptist on a 3rd Saturday ! You will not be disappointed. However, lines can get long so I'd suggest getting there when they begin serving!

This historic church is nestled in Pickens, SC. The original church was burned by the KKK in the 1960’s and rebuilt, the original schoolhouse remains. There is a slave graveyard nearby, and the enormous soapstone rock the church sits on is visible on the left as you face the church. Every 3rd Saturday they have a “Fish Fry” which is well worth the $12, meat and 3, plus cornbread, tea, and dessert. Today they offered fried flounder, pulled pork, several chicken choices, black eyed peas, creamed corn, and Mac and cheese, and much more. Very, very friendly people! We look forward to returning!

This is a historical church on a mountain you don't want to miss. The slave grave yard and first grade school in the area is very interesting. The huge stone near the church is actually made of natural soap! Delicious meal served as fund raiser once a month.

This is an old African American Church with a lot of history. Formed after the Civil War by former slaves. The congregation wonderful and forgiving people that will make you feel welcome. They feed a wonderful buffet style meal every third Saturday. They call it a fish fry, but the have much more than fish. Much, much more best food in Pickens County, South Carolina noon every third Saturday.

The fish fry on every third Saturday, noon to eight offers also substitute ribs, chicken, lots of vegetable choices, deserts, etc. Visit the nearby early settlement graveyard which is being partially landscaped by Clemson University as one of its many community projects. Very informal setting with beautiful outside views of 'soapstone' ledges and the hills & mountains of SC. This is a no rush venture out into the beautiful countryside of upstate SC.

Hit this monthly fish fry for some down home southern cooking. As a side bar you can learn the history of the church and visit the cemetery, all very interesting.

If you are near Pickens/Pumpkintown in Pickens SC on a third Saturday, stop and get lunch/dinner. Some of the best home cooking around! The fried fish melt in your mouth. Enjoy!

Wonderful 3rd Saturday fish fry. Come for the food as much as for the fellowship and gospel music. Everyone is friendly, food was goode homestyle, and the price is reasonable. Enjoyed the afternoon very much.
