If your looking for a leisure walk back in time, to how things might have been in the daily life of the original people of this island you don’t want to miss this place!
The reenactors were very knowledgeable concerning Irish history and it really felt like going back and being taught Celtic history, Gaelic, and even ogham. It took less than two hours to visit and well worth the admission. Everything is laid out perfectly from start to finish and it is a fairly easy stroll between sites. The gift shop is stocked with unique Irish made products including mead that was once served to kings.
If you are planning a day this is a great place to start and then head to the nearby castle about four miles away. Enjoy!

We enjoyed our stop in Craggaunowen, which is a great re-creation of living in the Iron Ages. The castle and the story of the Hunt Family is interesting. The fellow who does the wood carving does amazing work. He manually peddles the wood lathe with his foot/leg, carving out beautiful bowls, cups, plates, etc., starting right from cutting down the tree himself to the finished product. Beautiful and very talented.
The fellow in the ticket office/shop is very friendly and helpful.

Driving up from Killarney to the Cliffs of Moher we decided to come here, and we are glad we did.
We were attracted to its focus on the Bronze Age. There were 3 different cast members on the site, and all were very engaging. My wife enjoyed discussing the process of making clothes with one of the reenactors. The site is a pleasant leisurely 2 hour walk, there is a gift shop with snacks at the beginning/end of your journey.
Some items were not as well marked, and it could use a little upkeep but overall it was a nice change of pace from many of the historical recreations that generally show Ireland in the 18th century. Plenty of places for kids to run around and have fun.

We had a wonderful time visiting Cragganowen a few weeks ago when the viking show was on. It's great to see recreations of how our ancestors lived years ago! The castle is lovely to wander around and has a lovely view of the lake. The crannogs are very special and they've done a great job at making them feel homely. Would recommend for a nice day out!

The Craggaunowen living past outdoor exhibition was a stop of opportunity for us as we drove from Doolin south to Tralee. It was recommended by Susan Daly as we left her B&B in Doolin and we are so glad we pulled in here! Although two or three school groups were present, we had plenty of room to visit each of the exhibits.
We encountered several craftspeople working throughout the grounds demonstrating wool-working, weaving, woodworking, and other crafts using materials and knowledge of the time. Walking into a reconstructed crannog, the cooking site, and the ringfort brought the realities of bronze age life to our present day selves.
Do not miss the opportunity to vist this amazing site. And be sure to visit the standing stone father along past the iron age road!

Lovely friendly welcome from the start, and compared to much around here good value for money. €28 for me, my 5yo and my parents.
Lovely little cafe with great home made scones and tea to start! Castle was great, just right amount of restoration, and the village and ring fort excellently done, with another friendly "chief of the village" in costume who chatted away with son!
Perfect day out for our 3 generations

Lovely wooded walk with 16th century castle, Crannog, Ring Fort and boat used in the Brendan Voyage among other things. The staff all very knowledgeable and helpful including those in the entrance/café. I joined a group of spinners today and my husband explored and enjoyed the straw weaving demonstration.

We absolutely loved this adventure. Such great value for money and we learned a lot. Everyone was so friendly and very informative about the crafts weaponry and the traditions from this period in Irish history. I enjoyed making candles from bees wax and exploring the castle. Such a great day out and would recommend to everyone!

This is a wonderful site that shows you how people lived long ago in Ireland. With the exception of the tower house, the dwellings are replicas. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. It is also fascinating to see the boat used in the more recent day expedition to prove it was possible for St Brendan to have navigated to North America.

Site is wonderfully done. There is not only a castle, but a "village" showing what life was like in the Iron Age and also another for the Bronze Age. Guides is each location were fun and informative. St. Brendan's boat used to see whether or not St. Brendan could actually have sailed to the new world back then (yes, he could) was facinating. The forest walk back to the entrance was through a lovely forest and we even saw wild boar in a fenced off area. Tea house was welcoming. Recommend for all ages.

We would like to visit Craggaunowen on Sept. 30, 2016. Will it still be open at that time of the year?

We visited on (I think) 29 September last year and that was its late opening date for the season. Best to call them to check.
