Been meaning to visit here for a long time and only got round to it recently. It is a compact building but beautifully traditional and full of literary treasure and with an interesting story. The story is told by enthusiastic volunteers and is fascinating. This is worth finding out about and hearing the story.

Almost stumbled upon this place by accident..so glad we did. Greeted by 'The Keeper of the Books' who introduced us to the history. We then went upstairs to be hosted by 2 guides who explained everything on display. Upon mentioning our home town they sought out references to it. We spent 90 mins there and we could have spent more. Highly recommended. The true definition of a 'hidden gem'.

A good five miles from Crieff you’ll find the old Innerpeffray Library. Although no longer a lending library, it is home to a multitude of ancient leather-bound books. It is run by an enthusiastic bunch of volunteers who will guide you through and tell you about the history of the place and show you some quirks of the library. The oldest book they have is from 1476. We enjoyed the maps and the amusing monkfish illustration.

I honestly cannot recommend the library and its staff highly enough. ENJOY VISITING THIS WONDERFUL PLACE!

Due to Covid19 we had to book a time slot but this was very easily done and we received a warm -socially distanced!- welcome.

The library staff were incredibly helpful and informative and couldn’t do enough for us. I cannot tell you how enjoyable our time looking at the collection was and we found it very difficult to leave! We will definitely be going back and plan to take visitors with us next time. There is so much to see and we were shown a huge host of wonderful treasures by enthusiastic and knowledgable staff who really wanted to help us explore both the highlights and things of interest to us. They’ve really got it all, and the library itself is a wonderful space! The history of the building and collection is also fascinating and the surrounds are picturesque and tranquil.

Whatever your interests, there is something here for you!

I loved everything about this library. What a little idyll. I felt like I connected with history in a really real and wonderful way looking at the old books and borrowing register. Wonderful, friendly guides.

Very interesting visit to the library. You will learn about the history, and get the chance to examine some very old books. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and welcoming. The setting is beautiful, and there is a short walk to the river, with benches to sit and relax or enjoy a picnic lunch. Friends of the library also host special events throughout the summer.

What a joy! A treasure of a place for anyone who loves libraries. The team are so welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. I went with an interest in looking at Bibles and they could not have been more helpful or more engaged in answering questions. I will most definitely be back there soon.

We were staying in the area intending to visit Roman sites but the weather was so frightful that we researched attractions with roofs. One was Innerpeffray library and we were enchanted and impressed with it. It's an attractive Georgian building in a tranquil, remote wooded setting which houses books from the C17 onwards, on a multitude of subjects, which can be examined in situ or even borrowed. On display were manuscript poems by Robert Burns among others. A knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteer was in site to give us the history of the place. It really is worth searching out and I wish we could have spent more time there.
