Didn’t have time to visit on previous visits to the Black Isle. Also was not familiar with Hugh Miller. What a fascinating man with a wide range of accomplishments very interesting. What a shame such a tragic end.

Fantastic and informative Fossil Walk led by James from the Museum. Recommended for any geology enthusiasts and James was so knowledgeable, friendly and fun. Would imagine children would also enjoy this as you get to hunt for the rocks that contain the fossilised fish. Great way to explore the beach and find out about the work of Hugh Miller.

The Hugh Miller Museum and Birthplace Cottage, in the hands of the National Trust for Scotland, is well worth visiting. The story of Hugh Miller's remarkable life is very well told and illustrated, and there is plenty else to see within what is a beautiful, historic village. The volunteer staff are well informed, welcoming, and enthusiastic and with so much information available to study, including some moving diary entries, and a fascinating property to experience, and with such a story to tell, we found our time there flew by.
The original village of Cromarty is like a time warp in an area in which the heavy engineering side of the oil industry has also made its presence felt. The contrast is truly remarkable.
Fortrose (not far away) is another place well worth visiting. Easy to put a visiting package in this part of Scotland.

Really informative place of interest, such a cute thatched cottage. Great interactive things to do and such helpful staff. Some lovely little gifts in the shop too. Thoroughly enjoyed it

This is part of the NTS and is hidden within Cromarty itself. There are two buildings and two gardens. It gave lots of information about Hugh Miller's life (about whom we knew nothing prior to the visit!) and had rooms set up for the period he was alive. One of the gardens contained modern sculptures inspired by his work on nature, geology and fossils. The staff were friendly and helpful. Being original old homes there is no cafe, etc but plenty of choice in Cromarty.

Split into two buildings the attraction provides a history lesson and then follows with the cottage Hugh Miller was born in. The history is well presented.
Suggested afternoon visit can be extended by visiting Cromarty Courthouse Museum next door. If you arrive at lunchtime The Cromarty Arms can provide a good meal

We all enjoyed our visit on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Learned a lot about Hugh Miller and his life and times. Both of the staff were really helpful and enhanced our experience.

We really enjoyed our visit, we found it to be both interesting and informative, it is lovely to see such an important part of history being restored and kept so well. The staff here were lovely and very helpful, we also enjoyed the shop, some very good books here. It’s a shame the plants that are in the garden are not for sale on the wee plant stall as we really liked one particular plant, however the gentleman behind the desk was more than helpful by showing us the garden planting plan so we were able to find the name of the plant from that.
