We have been visiting this area for many years but only this year visited this property home of Bard Ellis Wynne, though it was the house that attracted us. Lovingly restored in 1990's our welcoming guide led us from room to room pointing out items of interest. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend it to anyone interested in fine old houses.

The house is the life long home of a Welsh poet .
Only open on Thursday and Friday afternoon but well worth a visit. The house dates back from the 16 th century and has an interesting structure. The guide is informative and after giving you a tour of the house leaves you to explore the rooms again on your own. Lots of rooms at different levels. The house is set back from the road along a track there is an open area in front of it which would be suitable for a picnic. There are toilet facilities. We took two ten year olds with us and they found the place very interesting.

What a fantastic place this is, the way the local community have come together to save this historic house is superb, the lady who guided us around telling us the story of the house was just brilliant and she was kind enough to give us a lift back to our car as it was raining, 11 out of 10, this place is a must on any history buffs visit to this beautiful region of Wales.

We spotted the sign, informing us of the cottage, while driving along the lower road between Harlech and Portmadog. It is hidden from the road, down a path. There had been no mention of the cottage in tourist information centres in the area or any leaflets around advertising it. I think it should be advertised more, as it is a beautiful cottage with original features and the tour of the cottage and the history of the cottage was very interesting. Our guide was very friendly. It is important to preserve historic places and I think this should be advertised more to attract more visitors. It would also be worth opening a small tearoom during the two afternoons it is open. It is open on Thursday and Friday afternoons between 1.00 pm and 4.00 pm.and it was only £3 per person for admission. This would help with the upkeep of the cottage. It is interesting to hear how people used to live in the 1600's. There was even a wooden bed that folded down from the wall, which I was surprised to see dating that far back. Well worth a visit.

Restricted opening hours, 350 metre walk from car park, but well worth the effort. Historic house with lots of stairs and levels. Stand-in guide, but it was still fascinating tour. Will return again. Ask to see fold down bed with ropes, hence the expression sleep tight!

This house is so different to many other heritage houses visited. The structure and history of the house is presented by Catrin Glyn in a most enthusiastic and informative way. Her personality shines through which makes your visit very enjoyable. Don't expect a furnished house although there are a few items of the period, the interest here is very much the building and the history and lives of those who lived in such a house. It is a maze of rooms and the restoration is to the credit of those involved. We hope that they will improve their promotion of this property (not easily found) for more people to be made aware of their efforts to save this for the nation and all who visit this lovely area. Y Lasynys Fawr was recommended to us by a local cafe owner in Harlech, and it turned out that we were staying at a holiday cottage across the road from it.

The lady running the property was friendly and enthusiastic, showing us around the house and providing lots of interesting facts about the poet Ellis Wynne, how the house has evolved over the years and the local area.

She also provided useful information about other places to visit around Harlech and even had some vouchers to spare.

I’d definitely recommend a visit to this historical house, not only for the culture but also for the highly approachable staff.
