A pristine piece of Australiana nestled in the Blackspur ranges. Amazing to realise this was a Cobb and Co stopover and a vibrant little town, once upon a time. There are the most beautiful European trees towering among the eucalyptus, even an ancient cork tree!

The Black Spur is located on the Maroondah Hwy between Healesville and Marysville. The stretch of road is full of plantation and is filled with beautiful nature and scenery.
It’s a must for those driving through the Yarra Valley.

近くの駐車場に車を止めて訪問しました。観光客がまったくおらずとても静かです。ゆったりできるのでコーヒー飲みながら本でも読みたい気分になりました。

This is a really lovely spot to spend a warm suummers day. The Watts River runs through the picnic ground. The area has an abundance of mature deciduous oaks, beech and other European trees, that provide lovely shade areas. The mountain ash are quite magnificent. The whole area is quite spectacular with the shade trees and ferns being set of with the very different colouring of the towering mountain ash. Barbecues and toilets are available.

Lovely park with a ton of established trees. Lots of families and places to sit, as well as the usual park attractions like slides and swings etc

Fernshaw was formerly a little village that was destroyed in the 1939 fires. Now, it is a great spot to stop, refresh or have a picnic. I've never seen this as anything but a shady spot.
The toilets are always clean, although very cold outside of summer; the grass is regularly mowed, so that you could play some informal ball games, but the tress are likely to be a nuisance. The stream is always a favourite for kids with sailing leaves. There is a small walking track, but leeches are not unknown & it can be muddy underfoot.
You are almost always guaranteed to hearing & seeing birds, and I love the peaceful nature of the place. It's a great stop to break the windy journey between Healesville and other towns along the Maroondah Hwy.

Had a pit stop here during a drive up the Black Spur. Good facilities with car parking, picnic tables and clean toilets. Also an information signboard and walking track. Peaceful ambience.

At Fernshaw there are a few picnic facilities such as 6 picnic tables scattered throughout a European garden area, a gas barbecue, toilet block and information shelter. Most of the picnic tables are quite close to the carpark and are located on level ground with a lawn surface. The tables are on concrete slabs and the table ends are open ended. The table concrete slabs do not extend out at the ends and the tables have no roll under feature. There is one gas barbecue for the picnic area and this can be accessed from a compacted gravel path leading from the carpark.
The Information Shelter is via a smooth, compacted gravel path leading from the carpark. The path and the information shelter are on level ground enabling wheelchairs and strollers to get close to the information board. There is no designated disabled parking at Fernshaw picnic area. There is allocated parking for 10-12 vehicles on a surface of mainly hard packed, medium-sized crushed rock. The carpark is not suitable for large buses or coaches.

Upsides, beautiful and well kept. BBQs work! Plenty of space and nice grassy spots. Plenty of large trees for shade. New toilets. Quiet, with not lots of people.

Downsides, close to road (but can walk in further for better spots), small car park.
