This spot is a wasted opportunity, as the treeline is too high to actually take in a good view of Melbourne and the surrounding areas. I believe it would be more popular if a viewing platform was installed so you could see above the thick trees. You can do a 3km walk to the park entrance from here and spot some wildlife, but is otherwise a definite miss.

Sugarloaf? What exactly is a 'sugar loaf'... I always think of a sugar cube, like the one you put into your tea... and as a child I recall when I saw them in fancy places I suspected that they had glued the sugar together.
It turns out that I was not too far from the truth- A sugarloaf was the usual form in which refined sugar was produced and sold until the late 19th century, when granulated and cube sugars were introduced. The term is now commonly applied to conical shaped objects or structures.
But that isn't helping us here... is it? :) Follow the road to the top of Mt Sugarloaf and there is a carpark, not formalised, but in very good condition.
From here you will get views of the forested southern slopes of Kinglake, the agricultural valleys of Arthurs and Chads Creek, and towards the city of Melbourne standing 40km to the south west.
The trees do block a bit of the view, but if you are here you might as well do the 3k or 6k walk from here. It will take you through the stunning Kinglake National Park. The air is clean and you can smell the Australian bush around you. It's a pretty area for bushwalking.

Mt Sugarloaf is part of the Kinglake National Park. It is a scenic lookout; you can see the city of Melbourne 40 km (25 miles) to the south-west, as well as other landscape features. There are limited facilities, but you can have a picnic. There are a number of walking tracks. You may see wallabies and other native animals, including birds.

My wife and I drove here after visiting Mason Falls. There is nothing much to see here. Hazy views (due to smog) of Melbourne city through the trees canopy and views of the surrounding lands.
This place is 550 metres above sea level. The attached photographs provide some insight as to how dull this place is. We left after taking photographs. Spent around 3 minutes here.

Easy drive to the summit nice views of the area through the trees can see Melbourne city even though it was a bit hazy. Certainly worth a look if you are in the area a couple of walks back down into the valley and along the ridge.

We started the mason falls circuit from the Blackwood picnic area. The circuit takes around 3.5 hours and you reach the summit of Mt Sugarloaf after about 50 mins ( it’s 3 km ). It is easily accessible as the route from the car park is not steep. It was a nice walk through the Bush but the views are mostly blocked by trees at the top. It’s a nice stop if you are doing the full circuit but if you are short of time see mason falls instead.

I still have a photo on the wall of this awesome place on fire in 2009. I was brought up loving this area and now with the miraculous re growth. I love being here again to catch a glimpse of the lands below.
