Woodend was first surveyed in 1836 by Major Thomas Mitchell, who subsequently opened the area up for settlement. On 18 March 1861 a 6-acre site was set aside as a general Cemetery for the town.

I actually saw the bluestone Anglican Church nearby and drove to see it... before realising that there was a cemetery across the road.

There are gorgeous white gates that invite you in to walk around. A number of locals were wandering around on the public holiday that I visited on, clearly there to see a certain individual. The views of the area behind the cemetery are just as captivating as the headstones that tell of many stories of those gone before.

Did a quick tour of the cemetery while geocaching in the area.
One particular sculpture is particularly interesting, quite unique.

Went to the Cemetery to Place some Gypsum Clay Breaker, over My Mum's Final Resting Place, and to Help it Settle down the Clay faster and then at a later Date, come back to Place some Top Soil/Potting Mix on top of Grave, and then to get it Ready for Spring Time (Sept, Oct, Nov or Dec)to then Lay 2kgs of Premium Grass Seed over the Grave as well as on My Mum's, Sister (Muriel's)Next to Her also too - and to Hopefully Get it "GREEN" as Soon as Possible, but the Clay Soil has to Settle First - I ❤' U Mum💋 and Miss U Lot's too, Me and Graham and Dad go Up there at least Once a Week, No matter what, Sun, Rain, Hail or Snow 😢

Made a day trip to Woodend and Newham to look for family graves. What a beautiful little cemetery and indeed town. Turned out there were more family there than we knew about so are planning another trip on Australia day. Its a place I could certainly spend more time in. (The town, not the cemetery). Well done to those who maintain the cemetery.

We were having a day of exploring Woodend and had been aware of its importance in the Gold rush and with the Timber industry.
Hence we ventured into the cemetery.
No relatives buried there so far as we know but the graves displayed a long and interesting history.
Religious demarkations were obviously important but we did like the angled set out and the tree planting.
It is probably a good picnic place.
Reasonably accessible by wheelchair.

We arrived after lunch looking for ancestors who may have been buried here. We were most impressed with the signage, the cleanliness of the cemetery and the unusual layout of the graves (not necessarily in straight lines).
