Very well done and informative. Focus is on the navy, wish there was more on the army/air force involvement. But really an outstanding museum.

This museum is very deceiving but it really doesn’t mean to be. A Pacific War museum in the middle of the Texas Hill Country? Why such a plain facade? Go into the Nimitz Gallery and you will discover why.

Admiral Nimitz was born in Fredericksburg. The building belonged to his family. He would not allow the museum to be named after him but asked that it be dedicated to those who fought in the Pacific War.

The Nimitz gallery was very well done. It incorporated technology for the younger members. It educated without overwhelming and preaching. We throughly enjoyed our experience there. So worth while!

There is a Japanese peace garden and so much more to this museum that we were not able to see, much to my GREAT regret. What we did see was awesome.

My advice is to MAKE THE TIME for this museum. Half a day should do it. Don’t be afraid to bring children 7 and older.

Fredericksburg is a great place to visit and with this museum it makes a visit there even better. The museum offers a great history of the events that took place in the Pacific during WW2. This was very informative. If you were not aware, the battle in this area was waged long before the US got involved (via Pearl Harbor). Did you know that nearly 20,000,000 Chinese died in the war? It was great hearing the background on many of the battles and names that are part of our history. In conjunction with this museum is the Admiral Nimitz Gallery, housed in the location that Nimitz grew up at. On the grounds outside there are several nice places to visit, including the Peace Garden, Plaza of the Presidents and the Memorial Courtyard.

The museum is highly recommended by my family and me. We learned so much more about WWII. The museum displays of men that served in the military left a sobering impression that it is not just a piece of history, but these are actual people that lived, fought, suffered, and some died for our country to enjoy the freedoms we have today. It was more than a story, the museum brought life to this time in history.

This is an amazing and comprehensive look at WW2 in the Pacific. We were doing a one day visit to Fredericksburg and wanted to the museum. Admission includes the Nimitz house and the WW2 museum. Long story short, we arrived at 3:00 pm and it closes at 5. We had to rush at the end and were not able to read the many fascinating details behind the 200 displays. Give yourself 3-4 hours minimum to see and absorb the many displays. Awesome stuff!!

This is an exceptional museum and well worth the time and ANY effort you make to get there. The museum is laid out in chronological order of the war in the pacific and really details the causes that led to the conflict. Heavy on the naval engagements at first, it pivots nicely to the US Marine involvement and eventual lead in the war as the navy took command of the sea. Some really nice exhibits of actual artifacts used in battle, short, but elegant, clear and concise movies, interactive strategy games and detailed summary boards and maps outlining the war as it progressed across the Pacific. I don't know what I was expecting for a Museum of the War in the Pacific in the middle of Texas, but I was pleasantly surprised and stunned at the attention to detail, clarity of the presentation and in-depth features they display. This is a MUST VISIT if you like military history or any history of the world actually. You'll be really, really, really glad you did!! And no, I don't work for them, but I feel they deserve this review because it's just that good!!

Great museum with lots of detail and types of exhibits. I learned a lot about the pacific war I did not know before such as the Japanese history leading to the conflict. The admission price was more than I usually see. Wish we had more time to enjoy the full museum.

The museum is located in this place because Fredericksburg is also Admiral Nimitz's boyhood hometown. On our arrival, our ears were greeted with the sounds of loud banging from a demonstration of WWII weaponry at a nearby park. Apparently a routine event. We walked past a displayed, semi-submerged (in the ground), USN submarine to enter the main building. After purchasing our admission tickets, we spent a couple of hours wandering through the honeycomb of rooms and exhibits. So much interesting stuff. No time to spend reading in detail - that would take another visit. The only minor gripe with the museum was the lack of mention of the US Coast Guard's role in the Pacific War. None the less, it was a fantastic experience, and we learned a lot. Moreover at the gift shop, we were able to purchase for a friend a very nice tropical shirt with a WWII motif. A visit well worth the time.

So much to take in. Very well done. I could spend two full days here! I didn't even have time to see the exhibits outside the main museum. The Gift shop has a great selection of books, etc. I learned so much. This is VERY well done and should not be missed when visiting the Texas Hill Country. It's only an hour from San Antonio and well worth the trip.
