Every Texas town has one as a center piece to the town square, the one in Georgetown is no different. Still a very nice-looking building that has some interesting history, stories told in the plaques and statues located around the building.

The Williamson County Courthouse is located along Main Street in the Historic Downtown of Georgetown. This is a beautiful Beaux Arts style building originally constructed between 1909-1911 and remains an active courthouse to this day. The courthouse is surrounded by monuments and fits perfectly in the main square which is billed as being the most beautiful in Texas.
Free public tours can be arranged through the Williamson County Museum which is just across the street on S. Austin Street. Contact directly for schedule. Otherwise, you enjoy the charming and slightly imposing exterior while browsing the other historic buildings and businesses operating around the square.

Georgetown's Town Square should not be missed. This Square reminded us of the Town Square in "Back to the Future" Lots of great stores and restaurants to visit.

Downtown Georgetown itself is worth a visit. It surrounds one of the best courthouses I’ve seen. The entire experience is well worth a trip.

We were here just after Christmas, it was January.
The Historic Williamson County Courthouse is attractive.
It has ionic Columns and copper columns.
There is a clock as well.
The justice statue is at the top of the Courthouse.
In the past the Ku KLux Clan was in charge in this town. Everyone was afraid of them.
The Ku Lux Clan killed people and everybody was afraid.
On Easter Sunday 1923, 10 Klansmen flogged and tarred Robert Burleson, a white traveling salesman, after Burleson ignored their warning to leave Georgetown.
District Attorney San Moody, a taylor native, led prosecution Attorney against the Klansmen in a series of trials between September 1923 and February 1924.
Moody tried his strongest case first against Klnsman Murray Jackson. After seven days of arguments, the Jurors deliberated for twenty minutes before returning a guilty verdict and offering the maximum punishment for the crime. Moody's initial conviction led to four additional convictions and four prison sentences for the other Georgetown Klansmen on trial at the Williamson County Courthouse.
These trials were considered the first prosecutorial success in the United States against members of the 1920s Texas. Further, the publicity garnered by Moody following the trial led to his successful runs for state attorney General in 1924 and Texas Governor in 1926 and 1928. He was the youngest person ever elected to both statewide offices.

Luckily no business to attend to there. Parking on all four sides available. The building is historic and love the statues and architecture.

Not really into history, but for 45 minutes it was something to do for a "new to town" visit. Bob the guide seemed to be just as bored talking - like he had repeated it so many times. The marble was beautiful and the dome.

My sister was here from out of state, and someone suggested we go to downtown georgetown. It was very nice some of the shops were very expensive we were able to find a few other shops that were more reasonable. After shopping and have a very nice lunch in the square we came back to our car with a warning ticket on it, I had no idea that we were there for the 3 hours that was painted on the parking spot I guess time just got away from us we enjoyed everything up to that point. I see no reason for this town to have a limit on the parking time there was not a lot of people out there. Well I can tell you this I will never go back nor will I ever suggest anyone else to go there which is pretty sad for a historic downtown district. I lived in the williamson county area for 25 years and have been gone for 12 year I had no idea they changed there parking in downtown what a way of welcoming visitors! there are plenty of other small towns around that don't mind if people park and visit there downtown and spend $$$ I will be visiting them.
