See it While You Can
mai 2021
You can no longer tour the battleship, but if you are at the San Jacinto Memorial it is worth walking over and seeing the ship from the outside and taking in one of the last standing WWI battleship while it it is still in “standing”.

Show some respect, Texas.

I was a little disappointed at the upkeep of this great ship. Having been in the movie Pearl Harbor, you'd think they would take better care of it and attract more visitors. There was a sign that said it was closed for refurbishing so...hopefully they got the clue.

You will be missed!
des. 2020
I've been here several times over my lifetime and it had been a field trip staple for countless school children for decades.

However, while the grounds are still open for exploration, the ship itself will soon be leaving LaPorte for good. Though you used to be able to go aboard and explore at your leisure, take a guided tour with a vet or spend the night during one of their events, the ship itself has been closed to the public since August 2019. All you can do is look at the outside now.

Repairs are currently underway to make it sea worthy enough for tow to a ship repair facility. It was originally slated to be transported sometime in November/December 2020 but, for obvious reasons, that schedule is behind. Once it is towed, there will be a repair process expected to last about a year then it will be permanently relocated somewhere in North Texas (as it did not have enough paying visitors to support its restoration in LaPorte).

As long as it survives, I'm happy (though I wish it could stay in LaPorte).

Goodbye Battleship Texas! We have many fond memories of you and will miss you.

Neglected, what a shame.

Absolutely appalling that the last WWI battleship on display is rusting away here. The USS TEXAS should be a source of pride for all Americans. The area surrounding the site is somewhat closed down as well. Drove over from the monument for some photo opps. Other interesting bits of history to find, graves, markers, kiosks, a sundial, and you can still take pictures of the outside on the ship. Please restore this for future generations before it is too late.

Grand WWI Battleship
aug. 2020
The Battleship Texas is a very nice World War I battleship. It's located in La Porte off Independence Parkway. It's across the street from the San Jacinto Monument.

You can see the Battleship and the park grounds in about 30 minutes. The park grounds are a war memorial. The grounds has some great Oak Trees and beautiful Crete Myrtles. Do try to stay in the shade, and it is very hot during the summer.

It is worth a visit if you are in the area

Wonderful!

I absolutely loved it, quite the walk though but worth it. In some areas it is a bit cramped. Still in awe of how big it is!

Great History Lesson
nov. 2019 • Venner
Beautiful state historic site to commemorate the battle of San Jacinto with the museum monolith as the center piece don't miss this incredible piece of construction or the park that surrounds it which also includes the battleship USS Texas which lies at anchor across the road from the monolith in it's own little park. Although getting here involves driving through an area that Houston is known for which is petroleum and chemical plants it is worth it when you see this beautiful little park and the history surrounding it. One little tip for any drone enthusiast you can get permission to fly your drone around both the monolith and the USS Texas by going to the park headquarters but don't do it without that permission slip and follow the rules.

Nice looking ship
nov. 2019 • Alene
Nice looking ship ... but at time of writing (Nov-2019), the ship is closed for renovations, and it looks like it really needs them to stay afloat. Unfortunately, the information available is not that clear, and even the ship shop is closed, so no t-shirts or hats for now. It’s always worth my time to go and visit a venerable old ship like this and pay my respects, however don’t expect to get up-close and personal any time soon.

unable to go on ship

It was a magnificent ship to see even if access to go on board wasn't available due to overhauling, Loved the free ferry that took you to the park site. Glad we went.

Battleship Texas cannot be visited, just seen from the outside
sep. 2019
Battleship Texas cannot be visited, just seen from the outside. It is a battleship from the First World War and it was in service until 1948.
