Historic tour of an old used-to-be. I liked it. But I’m a Civil War buff. The tour is self guided and a little derelict. However, you get an idea of the prison camp if you step back and study the terrain. You can still recognize earthworks and other details. I guess a civic group or maybe Boyscouts threw up some dugout shelters and what not. Pretty neat area for a stroll if you need to stretch your legs.

I visited here on June 12th, 2021 around 1 pm. It was super hot. I walked around the camp. I really enjoyed the shades in the forest. There were a lot of things to read in the forest. If you are interested in the CIvil Wat, you may like here.

Well preserved and a nice place to have a short walk as you learn about a civil war POW camp. Highly recommend if live here in Tyler or on visit.

My husband and I went to Camp Ford midweek. Camp Ford was the largest Confederate POW camp west of the Mississippi River. There is a rebuild fort front gate but no other fencing. There are some signs with information about the fort at the front gate. There is a very short trail through the small park with signage about the camp. There were 3 civil war type tents on site. We were there for about 15 minutes. There is a large parking lot and there is no fee to visit.

Took our Cub Scouts for a visit, very educational for them and adults too. A really important place in our Nations history.

a lot of history but little to view as most of it is just land with posters up at entrance, I was really interested in the history written about the site! Great for all Texas historians and Civil War buffs!

Not real large area, but from time to time presents a good display of the civil war. Several individuals set up tents and ETC.

Stopped by during a visit to Tyler. The information about the POW camp was eye opening. I can't even imagine the hardships endured by prisoners and camp personnel. Another great reminder of our country's past and the need to keep this an important part of our history.

This is an amazing piece of history and it’s been allowed to go to seed. The asphalt walkway is breaking up and full of debris. It looks like there was supposed to be a cabin but there were just big logs laying there. Was going to be built but never was? Three tiny cabins have canvas covers coming off and disintegrating. The American flag at the entrance to the park is in a disgraceful condition! Men suffered terrible degradations and hundreds died here. The park was probably a remarkable testament to them but it has not been kept up. In addition, the directions to this location were wrong on Trip Advisor. Hopefully, they’ve been corrected.
