If you love to cuddle baby goats, this place is for you! Caromont Farm is a working farm that raises goats for their cheese production. When the babies are born in the Spring, the farm offers visits to cuddle the babies to help with socialization. There are baby goats everywhere, some older than others, depending on how far in advance you book the date of your visit. Just remember, don't wear your high heels or your best clothes - this is a working farm and the babies are kept in small fenced in pastures. You may end up sitting on the ground on in a pile of straw. And you WILL have goats climbing all over you at some point! They also sell various cheeses made at the farm. What fun!

Visited on a lovely sunny day in April. The weather was perfect. The goats were charming. The cheese was delicious! We'd forgotten to take a cooler with us, but the cheesemaker was able to find an extra small styrofoam cooler that was the perfect size for our purchases. Thanks again for a fun outing!

A wonderful day with 100 happy goats & some delicious artisan cheese! Izzy welcomes you to a working goat farm in Esmont that offers visits to local residents & travelers from far away. Spend some time w/ Gail, a renowned chef who enjoys cheese making using the milk from her happy & healthy goats. Sample some cheese & pick your favorite to buy. Next, head to the pens where you can relax with as many week old baby goats as you can hold in your lap. Snuggle with the "kids" wearing homemade turtleneck sweaters - Adorable! Make sure to visit the toddler pen that is filled with playful goats ready to run, jump, & climb all over you - Fun! Daniel will answer questions & share info about life on the farm. It was amazing to snuggle & welcome twins that had just been born the night before that were only hours old - Precious! There are chickens, peacocks, sheep, dogs, a cat, goats, & more goats!! Visits to the farm are by reservation only so it's a little hard to get tickets, but keep trying. A trip to Caromont Farm is well worth the effort - a beautiful setting where you can enjoy some chillaxing!!

As my friend previously posted, we visited the farm on April 1, 2017. As the owner the vehicle that was damaged by the peacock, I would like to extended my gratitude to Gail and her husband, the owners of the farm, for their immediate response and plan of action after the review was posted. Gail was incredibly apologetic and also offered to pay for the damages to my car caused by the peacock. They were very willing to work with me to cover the expense of having my car fixed. I am very happy with the result and I hope to be able to visit the farm again next year to see the new baby goats. The cheese they make at the farm is also amazing! I'm definitely going to bring some home with me next year!

Upon our arrival one of the women who assists at the farm, explained that they were not ready but to park anywhere. There was no feeding, there was no tutorial of how to handle the goats; it was basically, open a gate and go see them. My friend and I did so. The young woman checking people in was very pleasant and informative. The goats were adorable and quite affectionate. There was a concern with three of the younger goats, as they seemed to be malnourished and lethargic. I do understand that It is survival of the fittest but, I would have imagined those babies would have been protected and kept away from the public. The peacocks were beautiful and quite active while we were there. However, one proceeded to damage my friends drivers side and passenger side of the car. There are scratches and dents in her car that will need to be buffed and popped out (this will be a pricey expense). This is an unexpted expense that could have been avoided if we were informed about the aversion of the peacocks reflection and it's agression towards it, which another attendee educated us on this fact. My friend and I decided to leave at this point. I chose to communicate what had transpired to the same woman that informed us earlier that they were not ready. I explained that I was sure they knew about the peacock attacking cars, and that They would not do anything about it, but there should be some form of warning on the premises and on their website and generated email that goes to those who will be visiting the farm, examining the risk to their vehicles as they cannot control the birds. There was no apology, no remorse, she just stood there. As I walked away, my friend witnessed this same woman role her eyes and scuffed off everything I had just said. Her lack of empathy and disconcern for the situation that was still taking place was the main reason I was urged to write this review. There were two other vehicles that were being attacked and none of the staff did anything to notify the owners of these vehicles as to what was happening. With all of this being said; we will not be coming back, and we will not leave any positive reviews. I feel that you should make this situation right, and assist in the payment of the repairs as there are no disclaimers on the premises nor on your website as of April 1, 2017. We drove 3.5 hours to come cuddle goats which was an unorganized event.

Heard about this farm's unique need for goat cuddlers on the news. Goats are my favorite thing ever! In the Caribbean they wandered into my wedding pictures.
So we couldn't miss the chance during birthing season to drive 3 1/2 hours for the opportunity to play and snuggle with baby goats.
The cheese is excellent too. We tasted and purchased the Esmontonian and a Farmstead Chèvre. I see the latter being spread on a rustic and crunch French baguette with a drizzle of honey. Yum!

You must arrange ahead of time to visit but it is certainly worth it if you love animals and excellent goat cheese. The goats are super friendly and you are free to pet them - in the winter months people travel from all over the country to volunteer to cuddle the babies! We had a wonderful hour tour petting the goats and the multiple dogs who live with and protect them, touring the cheese making facilities and ending with a delicious sample of cheeses. They also give cheese making classes and offer farm dinners. The farm is located about 20 minutes south of Charlottesville. Make sure you go down the road where the Caromont Sign is - online mapping systems try to have you go down an unused and barely usable road just before their entry.
