The Chrysler Museum is great. They have a wide range of periods represented and a huge glass collection. I think the guy said it was the second largest collection of glass in any museum on the east coast. Building itself is neat, not much around Norfolk like it. Staff was friendly :)
Since it's free you could definitely go see just one or two exhibits fully and slowly and come back for others instead of feeling pressured to see it all.. also some of the exhibits change so there will be new stuff next time I go, too.

This is an amazing museum. You can explore various types of art for hours. We went 2 days and spent a few hours each time.
I particularly loved seeing the glass blowing demonstration and the glass exhibits, although all exhibits were wonderful and very interesting.
In the gift shop there were 3 staff members ignoring customers and loudly talking about their dating life. This was highly inappropriate.
Admission is free but you can give a $5 donation.
I highly recommend you visit this place, especially if you like various types of art.

This museum is a real treasure. The structure, gardens, and surrounding sculptures are delightful. The atrium is bright and welcoming. I went to see the work of Guido Reni and I was not disappointed in him and the adjacent galleries. The free admission is the proverbial icing.

The museum is free with a voluntary 5$ donation. There is a nice restaurant and gift shop. The art collection is eclectic from modern art to renaissance with some absolute gems from around the world including Degas to Lichtenstein. I spent about an hour looking round.

This is an absolute fantastic collection of all genre of art; glass, sculpture, statues, paintings, and the list goes on. My partner and I spent almost 6 hours inside, and the admission is free. We did make a reasonable donation. Big plus, the cafeteria serves good food that they make on location, not all prepackaged. This has got to be one of Norfolk's gems, hidden in plain sight.
Enjoy, Gene H.

This is quite a large and varied collection and quite large. Parking and admission are free. Do not miss this if you are in Norfolk. Take the museum tour at 2:00. Definitely a great attraction in Norfolk.

This completely surpassed my expectations! I can't believe this museum has been in my backyard this whole time. This visit started off on a good foot by having a parking lot with plenty of open spaces. Plus, it is free!
We started with a small snack from the restaurant. There were folks having a full meal and their plates looked good. If you just grabbing a snack, they have seating in the courtyard (inside and out). It was expensive, but that's everywhere.
The glass blowing demonstration was at noon, so we went to that next. It was the perfect way to start the visit. During the demonstration, the artist created a glass vase from scratch. It gave me such a deeper understanding and appreciation of the art of glass blowing and made the experience of checking out the glass collections so much richer.
The glass collection has items from ancient times all the way up to the modern. There is something for everyone - ancient Roman cosmetic containers, exquisite Tiffany stained glass, German beer steins... I never expected to be interested in modern glass art but WOW. My favorites were Passage 7 by Mark Peiser (opal glass shaped like a rainbow that took on different colors depending on the angle of light) and 7.3.2011 by Josepha Gasch-Muche that looks like a sharp dandelion puff made from broken LCD glass. This section is a must see.
The collection isn't huge but it's well rounded with work from all over the world, ancient times to modern. There were several bigger names scattered throughout like Monet and Lichtenstein.
There were a few things that stood out to me that I have not seen in a museum before. One was a placard in the African art section informing guests that the piece lacked proper documentation, was likely looted and was being returned. Another was that a huge work was being restored right there in the gallery. It was removed from its giant golden frame and both frame and canvas was leaning against the wall, surrounded by the tools being used by the restorer. Very cool to see what goes into the conversation process and what a canvas like that looks like minus it's fancy frame. The presentation of American landscape art was also displayed in an interesting manner.
Afterwards we made a visit to the little gift shop. I collect postcards and happy to say they had those. They also had a cute "art-o-matic" vending machine. Super cute.
Totally worth a visit!

We thought an hour on a rainy day would be a good time here - we spent the better part of 4 hours! It is FREE and so is parking. Although a rainy day can get a little busy. There is an on site bistro and gift shop. This place is known for glass art. It’s a fantastic collection. Nothing like I expected and the area we are from has a history with glass. The entire museum is organized by regions of the world. The glass galleries tell a chronological story with the pieces on display. Other galleries house pieces more related to geographical locations, including some furniture, paintings and sculpture. There is a demonstration area in a different section if you’re able to catch that too.

Is this museum mostly for students in school and college? I am glad the admission and parking both is free. Are there any “must see” parts in this museum? Would two hours be enough? Can this place be rented for a wedding? Perhaps other museums in Norfolk like the Nauticus and botanical gardens etc should be free too
Have looked at your tour page. Seems that they are geared to students. Can a tour for a group of adults be arranged?

Of course. This is the most amazing Museum, and I'm sure the docents will accommodate any tour you would like.

Admission is free! Allow 2+ hours. Add an additional hour if you are going to see the free, daily glassblowing exhibition across the street.
