Back again this year to this beautiful beach 🏖!!
It is definitely one of our favourites!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️.
It is so beautiful and unspoilt and the waves 🌊🌊 this year were amazing!!
Just be aware that there are a lot of very steep steps to get down!!
There is a NT car park over the road that is free to NT members.
Well worth a visit and so relaxing 🏖🏖🏖🏖.
Sunsets 🌅🌅are also great from here!!

A beach owned and looked after by the National Trust. Good car park with easy access to the beach. Not the most picturesque but great for sunset views

Love, love, love this beach!
Dog friendly left hand side and not dog friendly beach on right hand side.
Bought body boards - perfect waves for this and great fun for the whole family - lots of happy laughter whilst there!
Also went fossil hunting.
Finished off perfect arvo with a yummy ice-cream from the van at the top, near the car park. Friendly chap ran it.
Bonus - free parking for NT members - take your NT card!!
Spacious beach - not overcrowded - fab!

Excellent rock hunting territory. Not too busy and a bit wilder than some other beaches on the island. The tide comes in close by mid afternoon so not too much beach left to sit on. The view across to the white cliffs around freshwater and beyond I could stare at for hours

excellent sandy beach with loads of room and not crowds of people on it , national trust parking and toilets which are a bit grim but being upgraded this year, ice cream van or the national trust coffee van is on site most days - ideal family beach day - no shops-no arcades - just miles of sandy beach

Cloudy afternoon visit.
Surfers down on the beach/sea
Tide was coming in when we arrived.
Weather turned wet and windy so were unable to go down onto beach itself. Happy sitting in car watching surfers
This is a National Trust beach car park. Free for NT Members. Tickets must be paid for by Non Members for the stay. Wardens do come fairly regularly to check tickets.
Unfortunately the toilet block here is currently out of action. - No Toilets available - there is a sign stating that they are being refurbished - but no time frame stated as to when.
Suggest finding somewhere before venturing out.
No cafe/food outlet here - bring your own. - we do anyway.

To be honest, I have never regretted joining the National Trust, and discovering beautiful Compton Beach has simply proved to me it was certainly worthwhile maintaining our membership during the Covid crisis.
The site can be reached from either east or west along the Military Road, but I personally prefer coming from the direction of Blackgang Chine rather than the Freshwater side, as the site entrance is on the coastal side of the road, and you avoid stopping to make a right turn on what is often a busy road. There is plenty of parking space, although a lot of is on the grassy top of the cliff. This is an NT- owned location, so there is a parking ticket machine. The site also boasts a toilet block, although, unfortunately, when my wife and I were there ( early April 2023), it was closed
The beach is reached from the clifftop by a rather steep wooden staircase, so there could be mobility/access issues for some. Dogs are welcome, and the ones we met on the beach seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. However, I do not know whether there are restrictions for canine access during the tourist season.
The beach is very photogenic, and like a fool, I'd left my camera at the hotel. So it was one for the few times I've been glad of owning a smartphone, and spent a happy while taking pictures, while my wife wandered along the beach.
It is a beautiful ( if windswept, at times) location, but the only catering facilities it boasts is the occasional ice cream van. Also, the mobility/access problem is not only restricted to humans, as some dogs, particularly the small breeds, had problems descending and ascending a long, fairly steep flight of steps, and some owners carried their pets down. I would also suggest owners be careful if they are holding their animals on a leash, as a stumble by your dog could have serious consequences for owner as well as pet. As a grand parent, I would have carried my toddler down, as well.
Once down, the beach is flat, sandy and splendid, and adults, children and pets all had a good time. Certainly worth a visit and/or a picnic on a summer's day.

I went to the beach to take some sunset photos. There was a little to much cloud to achieve what I had hoped for. I will try again the next time I'm on the island.

The view is very great seeing the white cliff. Not that crowded and you can easily find a place. Though no food serviced here, quite underdevelopped.

Compton Beach has some pools and in parts there are rocky areas and others with fossils even. Watch our for incoming tide if they get too intent on just looking into pools as some rocky areas get surrounded by water quick as it comes in. Steps access to beach is best from one car park off the Military Road near Brook (NT "trust you" donation box and primitive loos). Bembridge and other parts of east Wight also good.

You can park on the grass, along Military Road, as long as you don't obstruct the traffic or park dangerously. However the spaces available on the grass verge tend to get snapped up quickly, during the holiday periods. Others have the same idea, and get there early.....

No it's probably more driving distance the beach is easy to access everything else you would need a car
