Great tour! Learned a lot about local history! Interesting to see the old maps of Suffolk. Some very cool architecture and gained an appreciation of modern air conditioning

Everything was fabulous! The architecture and the history with the associated family antiques along with the curator, Lee King, who was so knowledgeable and fact filled. Enjoyed it immensely.

The family went on a Sunday afternoon and we had the place to ourselves. The tour was an hour and a half and our guide, Mr. King was excellent. I have taken a good number of historical tours over the years and he was as good as it gets. His enthusiasm and encyclopedic knowledge of the house were off the charts. He made the time fly by and he had just the right balance providing all the facts in an entertaining and interesting fashion. We plan to visit again the next time we have family in town.

This historic home is a wonderful piece of history in beautiful downtown Suffolk. You won’t believe the amount of furniture, artwork, clothing, civil war relics and other period pieces packed into this home. Our tour guide and museum Director/Curator, Lee King, was knowledgeable, informative, entertaining, and comedic as we made our way through the 21 room home for over 90 minutes. He has worked painstakingly over 30 years to return Riddick family heirlooms to the home as well as add unique items of the time period. Don’t miss this gem if you are in the area!

We have visited many historical areas around Virginia, from Williamsburg to Virginia Beach, but Riddick's Folly Museum was the "Crown Jewel". A 1hr and 45 minute guided tour by Edward King was a dream come true for any history buffs, not just for Virginia but for the Civil War era. Edward King was just charming, with a wonderful, interactive guide style that made the whole tour a wonderful, enlightening and entertaining visit. He brought the rooms, furniture, exhibits, and people of that era alive. Well, well worth your time even if you are not into history, and if you are, you must go, this is a DO NOT MISS historical house.

A terrific history museum that covers not only the history of the house, but history of Suffolk, the Civil War, the state of Virginia, and a former governor of Virginia! But, that's not the best part.
That would be Lee, the guide/expert/docent/escort/chaperone of the house. He has been here over 30 years and knows every nook and cranny of the house. He's also an accomplished expert on antiques and knows the history of every piece of furniture of the house and where it came from. That, coupled with his thorough knowledge of history, makes the best guide my wife and I have ever had the pleasure of being with. He is truly a treasure not only of the house, but the city of Suffolk.

This afternoon, my wife and I visited this amazing museum. There is so much history packed into this place. We have been to many, many museums and historical sites over the years; this is in the top few.
While it is one house, and not as large as places like Colonial Williamsburg; the care, condition, and curation of this collection is top notch.
The house is filled with artifacts original to the house and to the Riddick family. Mr. Edward King (the Director/Curator) gave us an incredibly detailed and descriptive 90-minute tour. He has poured his passion into this historic gem over the past 30 years.
His knowledge of the Riddick family, the house, and the history this place has witnessed was deeply informative and interesting.
Mr. King shared the details behind the collection pieces, where they were found and how they came to return home to Riddick's Folly. Many of the furniture pieces, for example, were returned to the house from several states and from England (!) and are positioned where they were when the Riddick's lived there.
We thoroughly enjoyed the visit, learning the history, and spending time with Mr. King. If you are ever in Suffolk, this is a must see and Mr. King is a must person to meet!

My 11yo daughter and I were in Suffolk for a softball tournament, and we stuck around afterward and took the tour. I'm so glad we did! The house was beautiful inside and out. We learned so much about items and events from the time period of the home. Our tour guides were absolutely delightful and so knowledgeable about the time period, the family, and the house and every item inside. We especially enjoyed trying to guess different things as we went along (I won't spoil any of the questions). At the end, we left the gift shop with a Jacob's ladder toy, which my daughter thought was the coolest thing ever! So glad we did the tour.
