Enjoyed a fascinating tour with park historian Marc Summers. He brought the history of Jamestown to life - starting in 1607. He also did a great job of comparing Colonial times with events and international relationships happening today. Wonderful to see archeological digs taking place in fronto of us and polite archeologists who were willing to explain and answer questions!

Unique things to see and get to board were the passengers ships the settlers traveled on to get to the New World and narration of how long it took. Incredible to tour the ships.

Hi there! It sounds like you actually visited Jamestown Settlement, which is the recreated living history museum just up the road from Jamestown island, the site of the original fort. We hope you'll visit Jamestown soon!

This is a great place to visit, with your children. They can learn a lot about life during early days, struggle for existence and how the thoughts of republic were formed.

I have 3 favorites:The Cooper was amazing. So easy to listen to. So learned. Thank goodness I live locally. I have to come back again.
The American Indian was such a learned individual. He was so well versed in Indian culture and history.
The church was amazing. Ed just knew a huge portion of the history. He was very excited w/the new digs that happen quite often. All have been blessed w/his knowledge. For sure I’ll be back again.
I was surprised at how much I didn’t know about Historic Jamestowne. So happy that I can revisit anytime.

If you are a history buff, you must visit Jamestowne! One can easily spend hours here learning and reliving the beginnings of our country. Beautiful and educational.

There is a lot to see and it is clear that a lot of effort has gone into presenting nuanced view of the history of the place. You have to use your imagination, since buildings are not recreated, but with the guided tour and the museum, you will walk away with better understanding.

At first, I was disappointed at the high admission price and lack of buildings to see. After eating a wholesome lunch at the Dale House Cafe, I attended the 2pm archaeology tour which was given by a resident archaeologist who had a talent for bringing history alive, giving an even-handed perspective from the point of view of settlers, the British, and the Powhatan. This tour and talk alone made the visit worthwhile. Not for young children or those who are looking for a theme park experience, but a must for those interested in early US history. Allow 1 hour for tour and another hour to walk around and see museum. Add extra time for a meal.

Is my Lifetime Senior National Parks pass good for Historic Jamestown?

It is, but the park is a private/public partnership, so they charge you an additional fee. We had our annual pass and it was $15 to enter, which is 50% off normal entrance fee.

Is it easy to get to Jamestown from Williamsburg and join a tour when you are there

both JAmestown and WIlliamsburg are very close to each other and you can drive the parkweay to get to both - watch the signs becasue sometimes they are confusing. But easy to get to the - they are on opposite ends of hte parkway from each other. Not sure about tours - we did everything by ourselves

There are a number of hotels affiliated with colonial Williamsburg that are within walking distance. Merchant street that adjoins the colonial Williamsburg also have quite a few highly rated restaurants. However, it’s also an easy drive to get there and they have a free parking lot at the visitors center with very quick shuttles (big buses) to and from colonial Williamsburg.

I would allow at least 3-4 hours at Jamestown. A nice little film followed by a tour of the facilities and just some time to marvel how hardy and tough these folks really were. Their level of endurance was far above what is available today. With nothing but nature to fulfill their daily physical needs of food and water.

Per the question the answer is accurately yes and no, here are specifics...
1. Interagency Senior, Annual and Colonial Park Pass - $5 Preservation Virginia entrance fee for pass holder and up to three additional adults with pass holder. $5 per person for everyone coming in under the pass - if 4 people are coming in under the pass, it is $20.
2. Holders of Interagency Military and Access Passes - free for pass holder and up to 3 additional adults accompanying pass holder.

No charge for parking. No charge to go the Glass blowing demonstration. There is a small charge for Historic Jamestown area at the end of the road but it is well worth the charge, especially if you follow along with a guided group. Have fun!!!
