We took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island for the day and while we were wandering around we came upon this museum. It has a lot of history about the island and especially about the Japanese-Americans that were living in the area during the war. The volunteers that work here are very friendly. It is free but they do take donations.

Some museums can be disappointing but this one scores. The video about Japanese-Americans from the island and their stories from WWII is alone worth the visit.

Well set up museum with a permanent exhibit about the island’s history. Learned a few new things and checked out the temporary exhibit of a local photographer’s work. Free entry with donations accepted.

In addition to a VERY NICE, and free, (donations excepted), museum, this place has a small café with both inside and outside eating area. There is an auditorium and the choir I sing with presented our holiday show they are this past Christmas. I have been to numerous other events there also including a beautiful display of Hispanic Cinco de Mayo and October’s Day of the Dead. The museum is next-door to a wine bar and a fun place to get numerous craft beers. All located one block up from the ferry dock on Bainbridge Island. Definitely worth a day trip on the ferry to Bainbridge.

Great information! My granddaughter did school project on the interments of Japanese Americans. I like to provide experiences to back up information gathered from books and internet. We paired this visit with a visit to the Japanese Interment Memorial. This museum had great information on the interment.

Small, informative walkthrough. Was well worth it.

There was a scavenger hunt available for the younger kids, a modern exhibit abt local music.

Jordan was so sweet, and gave us a quick walk-through. I admire how humbly the museum has honored Japanese American heritage and brutal history. What was also interesting was the exhibit on the Filipino-Native American descendants.

If you’re a first time visitor to Bainbridge Island, make this your first stop. Here, you will learn about the forced removal of all Japanese citizens during WWII prior to being taken to internment camps, trace the island’s history back to the Suquamish and Chief Seattle, learn about the island’s role in the forestry industry, be surprised about the humble beginnings of pickleball, and more. There are many artifacts and memorabilia to see. Several videos help in telling these stories. The lovely woman staffing the museum (I’m sorry I never got her name) was a treasure-trove of information about the island. She was genuinely interested in sharing her vast knowledge with visitors and obviously feels very strongly for the island. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Even though this museum is small it is full of fun and facinating facts about the Island and it's history. Who knew pickle ball was started on Bainbridge. Friendly and helpful volunteer staff. Great way to spend some time while on Bainbridge
