While this entry is for the specific small town museum, one could say the entire town is a museum -- a wonderfully neat and tidy step back in time! We stopped to mail a letter at the old post office and enjoyed the old houses, gorgeous flowers and wonderful scenery. Worth stopping to have a look around!

upstairs houses a notable exhibit of sea shells from around the world. Said to be the 2nd largest collection in the world.

Interesting recreation of a sailing ship in motion, an ancient hotel lobby, early sawmill machinery, and other examples of life in Port Gamble from 1853 through 1959

Port Gamble is a pretty small town and I's say the museum is definitely a feature you will want to see, especially since it is free.

Part of the value is that it's free and in and of itself makes it worth it! It's a small museum but has an interesting collection of shellfish and taxidermied fish. If you are in Port Gamble it's worth a visit. It is located in a general store type setting and occupies the entire second floor. A restaurant adjoins the space. If you stroll through, it will probably take you 30/45 minutes or longer.

Port Gamble started out as a lumber town, with local trees being cut down and shipped to San Francisco and points beyond. It was a company town from the beginning, with Pope & Talbot being the company. The museum gives a good feeling of what life was life back when the town was young. There are exhibits of the hotel, the quarters of a ship captain, and much more. It is not worth coming all the way from Seattle to visit, but if you are in Kitsap County for other reasons, it is worth an hour and $4 to check it out.

Very nicely set up historical museum. I especially like the different rooms set up to look like the authentic room of the past (my favorite was the ship Captain's quarters). Lots of great artifacts on display. Definitely worth the $4.00 admission price.

The museum is located in the Main Street in Port Gamble. The entrance is at the back of the General Store down the pathway through the archway. It's small and quaint. Check for hours it's open.

This museum is chock full of interesting information and artifacts. You learn everything about this town which is still company owned and maintained. Our docent was welcoming and knowledgeable.

Excellent small museum filled with history of Port Gamble. Recommend taking in if visitig the area. Port Gamble was location of Pope and Talbot, many artifacts from early 1900's. Great description of town and it's livelihood in its day.

We almost didn't go inside, but changed our minds at the last minute. This is such a great museum. As soon as you go in the front door you can't miss the unique desk made out of a huge tree that the docent sits at. The displays of rooms are so authentic right down to the blowing curtains on the window and the sound of thunder. So much history about the lumber industry and the Pope and Talbot families that operated the mill on the town waterfront. This museum in located on the lower level of the General Store on the backside of main street and the low cost of admission is well spent. Definitely would recommend a visit to this historic museum!
